I hate when people say don't use this its to OP.
The guy works at GW and they MAKE the models OP, it legal to use whatever models and builds you want as long as its within the rules.

I would play whatever you want to play and try even if someone else feels its "To Good". Honestly if someone doesn't want to play against you because they are afraid to lose then maybe you should reconsider playing them :p

You're playing some dude/dudette who works in a hobby store, you're hardly playing one of the game designers.

This is really no different from playing some other geek, just that this one happens to have a pretty cush job, and also seems to be TFG. I... really wouldn't make a big deal about it, or maybe just not play him or something?

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

His job is to showcase the hobby and talk it up to sell. Best way to do that is to connote the idea staffers are "40k Grandmasters" to little Timmy. And if you, random shopper, can out D6 Grandmaster and say jump, little Timmy asks "How high?" And you happen to make a passing comment on how you prefer the less expensive and more versitile Tactical Squad as oppossed to the Vanguard Veterans, and so little Timmy buys his 10am squad at £25, as oppossed to his 10 VV at £50.

The owner/boss/head honcho of the FLGS where I go from time to time is this just really cool guy, that is just a champ at these tabletop games. He can tell everyone about any unit, can have discussions about every single codex, and seems to know every single statline there is. His thoughts about the meta of the game and such are highly valued, partly because of how well he plays the game.

At some point I realised I have never actually seen him play a game, and when I asked around it turned out very few had, and that he hardly ever won. He plays very fluffy lists, and tends to throw units into a grinder for the fun of it, as it turns out.
He manages to seem like he's the winner of every game anyway, by his magnanimous attitude, personal charisma and the ability to show knowledge without seeming to be lecturing.

In short, he's a pretty cool guy and doesn't afraid of anything.

You don't have to be a douche to sell plastic men.

The key words being FLGS. The OP was playing in a GW Hobby Centre. A FLGS can have its staff and managers be nice guys whereas any thoughts of being nice, instead of oushing sales,is considered Heresy and ++Redacted By Inquisition++
