Who do you guys think I should ally my crons with? My fav. Would be white scars but I'm not sure what to do with them or any other army what army do you guys think?

Blood Angels, obviously.

What kind of cron army are you running I find grey knights can work well with crons.

GK/Crons have done pretty well in big tournaments if I recall. Then again the GK detachment is Draigo and 10 paladins.

I think csm might mix well. A Heldrake to roast infantry while then crons glance anything with an armor value to death.

Well, I'd consider CSM with flying DP, Cultists, and Helldrake.

I'd go CSM with Cultist horde.

CSM and Crons are probably the best, but BA is the fluffy option.

All the local fluffbunnies will love your awesome Cron/BA army!

May latest combination is Necrons + Orks, or NecrOrks! They can be brutal together.

As a matter of fact, NecrOrks have won a tournament as well. Ben Mohlie won a tourney with that combo.

Ben Mohlie won wargamescon with necrorks and was in the NOVA finals with the same list. I personally think allying tau to necrons is probably the best combo ATM. But GK, Orks, and chaos all bring some real game changers for the metal undead.

All 4 allies of convenience are great.

Chaos: Beater-mace prince, 10 cultists, heldrake, and 2 oblits fills necrons CC needs, hard flyer, and LR firepower.

Tau: A riptide with support commander and some outflanking kroot is cheap and fills long range support, esecially with a 3 man broadside unit.

Grey Knights: Have a screamer/seer star problem (which necrons struggle against)? Bring a GK stormraven with mindstrike missiles. They can also bring henchman spam for added numbers.

Orks: As jy2 posted, meganobz in battlewagons seems great as combos. Even just bringing a mob or 2 of boyz adds numbers and swarm capacity.

Orks have worked well. battle wagons and mega Nobz do a pretty good job.

I've also been looking into options using either the Black Legion or the Farsight Enclaves supplements. A lot of people bash Black Legion but I still want to look into it a bit more. Farsight is expensive due to requirements but provides some interesting power options too thanks to the named Riptide.

Edit:

For desperate allies, I've also looked a bit at Space Wolves as well as a small Deathwing detachment.

How exactly do crons with gk allies work? What makes the combo so good?

not sure if this was directed towards me or not, but i'll answer it. If I run the Chaos as allies: I usually run a maulerfiend (to run with my two units of wraiths), a Heldrake (duh), and a unit of cultists with a sorcerer (tax)

If I am running Chaos as Primary, I essentially double what I have above and then sprinkle in Necron flyers to fill the list. (2 squads of 5 man warriors (each in night scythe), OL, 2 stormteks, 6 wraiths, 1 Abyssal Cryptek, 5 Deathmarks (Night Scythe), Doom Scythe or Annihilation Barge, depending on points.

I wish I had seen this post first, then my response would have been:

"Orks, next question."

I pop a vote in for orks. The gauss flayers can help the orks with heavier armour. The orks give the necrons numbers. The necrons also lend themselves to sitting behind an ork ADL shooting; or throwing in decent low I troops into the battle. The biggest problem with the pairing is the cost of the necron or (decent) ork allied leader.

Pop a couple of battle wagons with deff rollers into the mix full of orks and nobody will be firing at the necrons they'll be concerntrating on the orks.

This is EXACTLY what I would want to run with my Crons ideally. They have my favorite fluff in 40k. Outside of a helldrake (which seems like an auto include) I have no idea how to make it a competitive and fluffy list. Very curious to see what others think...

At the end of the day, I'd say that Necrons don't need allies. You you need to pay a tax for an ally detachment which can be better spent elsewhere.
However, I understand jy2 or others who play at a highly competitive level in GTs that an ally detachment could help. But if you look at jy2's battle report vs. Eldar+Tau, then you'll see that such an army can become a gamble due to the small size of troops (5 men Warriors quads, and 10 Gretchins that refused to run away, lucky him).

I agree that necrons don't really need allies to be effective. They are arguably the most efficient army just by themselves. I run allies more for variety in gameplay. It gets a little boring always running the same build. Besides, I already own the models that I use to ally into my crons.

Dear jy2, I always enjoy your battle reports. Of course I understand that mono Necron lists played at the competitive level over a longer period of time get a bit boring.
