Greetings everyone.

I've come upon a conundrum and I would like some thoughts and input on what folks think might be good alternative models to represent Ogryns for a Vostroyan Imperial Guard army.

First, I like the concept behind Ogryn's, and want to try them out as an option in my guard force eventually, but they don't exactly fit the theme of the army at present. Since Vostroya has strong ties to the the Adeptus Mechanicus, my thought would be some automaton type trooper, or perhaps a human wearing very bulky steam-punk esque armor perhaps?

There's always the option of kit-bashing/scratch building something as well, which I may yet do down the road if nothing else. That said, I come to you my fellow followers of the Dakka, to help me find or procure some neat alternative models to represent Ogryn on the tabletop.

Thanks in advance for any replies and assistance.

Take it easy.

You don't know me son, so I'll explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.

Some FW HH Mechanicum battle robot things could certainly g
help, and with a little conversion Space Marine Centurians might work.

Recreational Conflict do a great hard suit that might work

Another thing to consider would be something like the Hunvarian Ogres from alternative armies (or a different Ogre army from there).

They are a bit smaller than Ogryns, but it gives you something to work with.

That hard suit is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for, thank ya Sean!

I'll check out the FW stuff too, for sure, but that Hard Suit will work great for a counts-as Ogryn. Also, they're relatively inexpensive. Three of them for thirty bucks isn't bad. (I was only planning on having a small squad, five or six at most).

Thanks again, looking forwards to getting my hands on these in the near future.

Take it easy.

I was going to use Pig Irons wardroids, but I never quite got around to it. Nice models though.

If you do want some more traditional Ogryns (i.e. big dumb meatheads), Scibor do some nice Prussian/German-themed sci-fi ogres that would fit in with the aesthetic nicely.

I had a client request that I look through for some form of ogryn option as he found those offered by GW to be far too comical for his tastes. I have to agree with him, since the old Ogryn sculpts are really due an update. It seems a little like GW are trying to quietly forget about the sub-human units, perhaps to let them go the way of the squats.

The best I did find was a tutorial on converting fantasy ogres. Here you go:

The client eventually just decided to go with good looking forge world guardsmen and dropped the ogryn idea. Pity really, but I hadn't found anything special out there that really fit the role of a oggy. Not the most helpful post but at least I can confirm there's not too much out there.

Best of luck!
