Hey guys, this is our first video battle report. I spoke with Jesse (the guy talking in the video) and I think we're going to be switching up the format after this initial report so that the players commentary is in the battlerep video. Matt and I both wanted to showcase our respective lists and how they function. As the title says this was a rematch of our semifinals match at the NOVA open. We also did a post game interview talking about tactics, things we did wrong etc.

The point of view is great, what's going on is pretty clearly visible which tends to be a problem in bat rep. Narration kept you up to speed an was informative. Great bat rep dude, make more

Ouch. That was some extremely bad rolling by Matt to lose most of his seer council in combat. Despite that, he almost won until the game went to 7. IMO, the seer council deldar may be the hardest Eldar build to play against.

Thanks for the positive feedback guys

JY2-I agree, the seer council with baron is crazy good. I haven't had any problems handling serpent spam eldar, but the council always has me on edge because in my experience its one of the toughest units in the game to play around, let alone kill.

Hey Justin thanks again for the game. I’m still kicking myself for jumping in to early. I was more worried about getting the video stuff set up right than playing the game.

Speaking of which; any comments on the format, production, or style? What army/players should we use for the next game? We are just getting started producing videos and are looking to improve our product. Like Justin said we have some changes in mind, but we are always happy to hear suggestions from the community.

Great job guys, very good video for your "first". Really appreciate watching tournament winners play out their armies, I wish more did it.

As for requests, I'd love to see a 30+ khornedog list against Justin's Tau sometime.

Well I will see if we can get the list together to do up a battlereport for you. Sure I can find someone in the community around here to lend us painted models and get that game going! I'll let you know how the search goes

To be honest, though, almost winning was the product of guardian jetbikes, the council underperformed massively.

Overall, a fantastic report, especially for your first one!

-Everything being painted with what would be considered a reasonable tourney standard for terrain is a big plus.

-Bringing what are known as the uber hard armies is a great plus. I don't have anyone local that can come close to running the O'Vesa star and this was nice to at least see what it looks like. I don't attend nearly as many GTs as in the past, so this was of great benefit.

-Video quality was top notch with a streamlined narrative. Very well done.

-One thing I'd be curious about, as an Eldar player. I've been working on creating an efficient system to track powers. I've gotten it pretty easy to track who has what power, but tracking what powers are cast can be a bit of a challenge. I only saw an occasional die placed in which I'd figure is how he's tracking cast psychic powers. How has other players found this when playing against it? I ask mainly as I've got my Jetseer built and painted and am debating taking it to an upcoming GT, but speed of play is a significant factor for me.

Thanks for posting the report. Again, great report and looking forward to seeing more in the future.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Nice report guys. I think the format is pretty darn good. Only thing that bugged me was sometimes it felt some of the board level "movement" shots felt off, I don't mean distance wise but more like bad hand acting? Haha. And that's seriously like the smallest of nitpicks haha. Other than that this was a pretty informative video for those interested in seeing what high level playesr with really powerful lists do in "tournament" style situations. Good game and i can't wait to watch more.

Great report guys. Three questions.

1) When Matt says Justin's best tactical move was splitting off the HBC riptide, still benefitting from TL+IC...what am I missing? He's got to be in the unit during the shooting phase...or did I mishear?

2) How often do you risk ripple fire for the SMS? It's so good but losing those wounds can be critical in close games.

3) I'm going to DaBoyz GT in Novemeber. I don't know how familiar you guys are with the FOC restrictions, but to make a long story short, the only deathstar that survived the restrictions is the Jetseer. So i'm concerned about fighting it for sure. Do you think a source of reliable Misfortune such as Tigurius is necessary in such an environment? I feel like it is. I'd love to take my Tau+Tau which is similar to Justin's list but with fewer riptides, but I feel like I have to ally Tiggy.

Thoughts? Thanks!

Excellent production quality although i have a question about the game itself.

I thought the seer council was broken in combat, but they charged next turn, did i misunderstand that broken as hıt and run because as far as i know you cant assault after you regroup?

@pizzaguardian-yeah he meant hit and run, he didn't break

@The Shrike- I think he meant that I had both Iontides (ovesa and the other tide the characters were sticking around with early game) with twinlink and ignore cover. I did this in our nova game and managed to kill a solid number of the seer council early. This time it didn't do as much. I usually try to keep both an iontide and the hbc tide in close proximity to the characters to I can jump them in between the two, depending on need.

I ripplefire any time theres a good target. I said early on that novacharging all of the time is a bad idea, but I do find that I use it more liberally than I first imagined. Having a mc with a 3++ or that can fire 8 twin linked ignore cover shots that melt infantry is really hard to pass up. That being said you still cant be stupidly risky with it...all comes down to knowing limitations.

Unless I missed something, you can still run farsight+tau for daboyz? So you could run the ovesastar list like I ran but just drop out the 2 iontides for either more troops, broadsides, or something else entirely. Its close to 400 points to play with so theres a ton of options. I myself am probably running something completely different...something absolutely terrible.

The only factor for daboyz is o'vesa counts as a riptide so you can run the star, but no riptides past o'vesa and one extra.

The seer council is still legit in that format as is the screamer star albeit with only 2 heralds.

Actually most deathstars are legit for daboyz as they rarely depend on spam. Just can't take unique characters from 2 books.

Thanks for the response Justin; do you agree Jetseer will be the list to beat at Daboyz?

Not really. A good alpha-strike before they can get their powers up can be brutal against a seer council. Marines are actually good at this with drop pods and/or grav-spam White Scars.

Plus, Fortune is not necessarily a guarantee.

Justin is correct. I don't know that they are the end all. Serpent spam still matches up well any army that can go second and has fast troops as well can put a big kink in the works. I think it is a great list but it's really the player that will determine how the council does.

Great batrep. but the voicing was a bit quiet,so when I turned my computer back on windows 7 made me jump. Fiddle with the soundfile in audacity next time.

This: though seer council can be really intimidating once it gets going and if it has all of its powers, it can fold or underperform very quickly if it has some bad luck. I'd hate to make the call on what the 'list to beat' is right now in 40k as there's so many different ways to bust the taudar meta, marines are fairly new and have a lot of unexplored options, and deamons can always be effective provided they don't fail grimoire and get decent powers. I said this elsewhere on dakka but I think this edition is actually a lot more balanced than people give it credit for, and a lot of the dexes can compete either on their own or with some allied help.

Anyone's game, really.

I agree with Newton, while flying circus daemons will not be an issue at da boyz due to comp, like the jetstar, the power of the list is heavily determined by it's pilot.

Well that's any list. But drop pod spam is illegal there. Screamerstar is illegal. Can't have more than 4 Wave Serpents. No more than 4 fliers, so Cronair and FMC spam is out. O
Vesastar loses flexibility because you can't swap out IA/HBC situationally.

It goes on and on.

I'm just looking at this and thinking, I better have an answer to Jetseer because it's the only top-ish list that makes it out of the restrictions completely unscathed.

Crontau, and taudar make it unscathed as well.
