What makes these individuals different from each other? I understand that all three of them and their legions specialise in covert operations and have great skills in deception, infiltration, deceit, guerilla warfare and stealth. But how is each one unique?

I think their philosophies are one thing? Curze believes in terror tactics, Alpharius believes in deception weaved up deception, Corax believes in fast strikes and getting away quickly...There's other subtle differences as well, but those are the ones that strike me.

One is Colonel Kurtz (as played by Marlon Brando), one is Batman and the other is Tomax/Xamot of G.I. Joe fame.

Their personalities are also utterly different in the HH novels so far. Dorn and Purterbo also had similar styles of warfare but were different in character.
One massive difference in their warfare is that the night lords want their presence (in the area) known even if their location is not so it can spread fear to dibilitate their enemies. The ravenguard dont care if their presence is known as long as it is after their strike and departure. Whereas the alpha legion would prefer their presence not to be known even afterwards. They would prefer different foes to blame each other. That is how I would read it anyway.

Corax = emo
Curze = goth
Alpharius = scenester

Cruze wants everyone to know he is there, he is badass, and that he is going to rip your spine out.
The night lords dont use camoflauge, they dont hide who they are or that they are coming.

Alpharious has a twin
Alpharious tries to look like the rest of his legion, and have every man in his legion look like him. There is no leader, there is no specilist. You dont know who is who
The alpha legion fights almost always by infiltration or deception. They dont want you to know they are coming or who they are.

They are really polar opposites

Corax is somewhere inbetween
The Ravenguard use infiltration to gain information but they dont turn whole orginizations apart from the inside.
The Ravenguard likes lightning fast attacks not for the terror concept but just for the speed. Getting to grips before the enemy can bring in big guns.

let's discuss the praticals. how the 3 legions in question would address the conquest of a fortress.


the Alpha legion would infiltrate the fortress and slowly take it from within.

The Night Lords would likely butcher the surrounding area putting such terror into the fortress that they'd open the gate, just to spare themselves a worse fate.

the raven guard would launch a series of gurilla strikes on supporting infastructure, thus making the frotresses position untenable

The difference between Corax and Konrad is purely one of circumstance, even Corax admits this. He was exsposed to human kindness while Curze knew only human sin. Corax had decent recruits that had fought with him and Curze had Nostraman rapist and murders and a handful of Terrans who the Nostomans distrusted.

Then the Emperor using the Night Lords as his Terror Troops while using Corax's Legion to attack enemy supply lines, Horus continued this practice, then you have the fact that all the brother Konrad felt close to joined the rebellion, the assassination attempts prior, real or perceived betrayal and you add chaos to the mix.
