I'm pretty new to the hobby but was thinking of getting a few space wolves. As I'd like to keep expenses down as much as possible I was wondering how feasible it would be to convert the dark vengeance space marines to space wolves?

I guess I'd have to buy a box set of space wolves and try and use parts from that set to wolf them up a bit but will I get enough parts? Are the vengeance marines modable or will this be a chore? Could a beginner do it? Does anyone know of any good tutorials? I'm mainly interested in converting the tactical marines and the terminators.

So yeah, basically does anybody have any experience/advice with this idea?

Any advice is much appreciated! Cheers.

It would be a total pain in my view. The DV models all have cast in Dark Angel iconography that would need to be removed/modified. It doesn't help that the Space Wolves don't even use the standard icon forms for tactical/assault marines, etc. You might be better off seeing if you can pick up Assault on Black Reach models as they are much more generic.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Well it highly depends on how extensive you want to convert them. Just cutting away all the DA icons and painting them in spave wolves colors should be not too hard on the more standard models.

But getting all the details away from the terminators, as well as the sergeant and HQ models won't be easy. There are some terminator models and all the HQ/sergeants with rather extensive decorations that will take some time and carefull cutting the get the details off.
Another problem is that those models are designed to be in only 2 or 3 seperate parts. So they aren't compatible with regular bitz. If you want to swap in some space wolves parts like a shoulder or head for example you have to cut those details away on the DV models and also rework the SW parts to fit in the cleaned area. Nothing for a beginner and time consuming.

To cut a long story short i'd say the only models that can work are the regular marines. Just remove the icons and paint them in SW colors. Maybe add a few bitz here or there on top of the models but don't try swaping out details like heads or shoulders. Personally i wouldn't do it. Just buy the boxes. It will be better in the long run even if it costs more.

Personally i dont think its worth the trouble unless you get really good at scraping ALL the icons off. Or a second option could be to green stuff Fur and leather onto the DA icon shoulder pad to avoid half the work there.

I have actually been busy converting my dark vengeance Marines into space wolves as well. I have generally been leaving the iconography where it is on Terminators and putting wolfy bits and pieces on them as needed. The regular Marines are, as above, relatively easy to modify. I have had some success magnetizing weapons, actually, this is quite easy on the sergeants and on the special characters. The terminator's power fist is very, very easy to magnetize with a wolf claw.

I will be adding some different guns to the terminators as well, it should be quite simple to magnetize them or replace them with combiweapons.
