Necron Flayed Ones Basically, I wanted to try and find a niche unit that wasn't wraiths to address a cool concept poorly executed in the current codex. Esp since our current flayed ones are so....bad. Elites Type: Infantry WS: 4 BS: 0 S: 4 T: 4 I: 2 A: 2 W: 1 LD: 10 Save: 3+ A squad of 5 is 80 points Squad 5-20, adding additional models for 16 points a model Rules Deep Strike Optical Disruption Fear Rending Reanimation Protocols A squad of at least ten can upgrade a single model to a Reaver Lord with the following rules for 40 points WS: 5 BS: 0 S: 5 T: 5 I: 2 A: 3 W: 2 LD: 10 Save: 3+ Wargear: Flensing Blades (Rending, Fleshbane) A reaver lord has access to the wargear choices from Codex: Necrons, EXCLUDING WEAPONS Rules: Optical Disruption When Flayed Ones arrive, their emergence is marked by strobing flares blinding their prey and overloading sensors for a time: All enemy units within 6 inches of the squad when they deep strike, must pass an initiative test or be rendered blinded (ws/bs 1) for the turn.

I'd say just make it an FAQed version of Necron Flayed Ones.
I'm not sure about Rending + Fleshbane, but then again, they are I2... honestly it could actually be alright. I'd give it a game or two to try it out.
Maybe throw in hatred or rage to represent their desire for FLEEESSH
Edit: Maybe drop down to shred if fleshbane is too much. Thats what the IA Flayed Ones get.

I agree with Dakkamite, this doesn't need to be a brand new unit, but just an update to existing Flayed Ones.

The title is cooler ;P
Okay, I changed the name, call it an FAQ lol
I figured the fleshbane was ok, given the rending only applies on 6's where a warscythe is always ap2
I figured hatred/rage/preferred enemy might make them too costly/rules stacked. Pricing wise...where do you figure they are? Right about ok? Too much? Too Little?

The units are somewhat slightly powerful.
Compare to genestealers, who only have 2 rending attacks and slightly better WS. However, they are only 5+.
However, the new flayed ones have 3 rending attacks, 3+, Reanimation Protocols as well as optical flare special rule. As they are, they should be 20-pts each. If you want to keep them at 16-pts, the very minimum I think you should do is to downgrade their attacks to 2.
And your sergeant is way OP. For 10-pts extra, he gets: +1 WS, +1 S, +1T, +1W and Fleshbane. Moreover, he's got access to one of the most powerful wargear in the whole codex - Mindshackle Scarabs. Way too much. At the minimum, you should compare him to the Broodlord in terms of price. IMO, he should be at least a +50-pt upgrade from a normal flayed one.

I see what you mean, I dropped the attacks down to 2 attacks a pop I was using a necron lord as the base for the sergeant. I think upping him to 30 points (so 46 points for the base model) for the upgrade is fair, because otherwise, Flayed ones still can't have other characters join them. If they deepstrike, they still have to eat a round of shooting before they can be brought to bear. I dont think the access to MSS is such a deal breaker. I made it so the Lord couldn't take a warscythe, which against most things is more effective, since it usually wounds on 2s and ignores armor all the time.

Considering there are already new Flayed Ones in IA12 (in the "Dark Harvest" army list), why not just play dark harvest with proper Flayed Ones? the mere fact the got switched to troops made them effective.
As for your "non-flayed-ones"
The squad iteself seems ok, but I got 2 things that bother me.
The blind effect is just too good. 8" bubble is HUGE. even a mere 5 for dropping the blind bubble has a good value, the unit forcing some attention is just a bonus.
I know you will say that Warp Talons have a similar ability and fail, but they cost much more, and 8" is much bigger then 6". its in the "safe drop" zone.
Second is the reaver lord thingy.
Thats not how necrons work. ever. at any squad. they got no "team leaders"

I gotta agree with the no leaders thing. Its like a theme of them - faceless, mindless machines. They're pretty much the only army without sgts

I like it but have to agree with the others no Sgt type upgrade and have the range on the blind effect 6"instead of 8" other then that it looks good and they can definitely be usable without them being OP.

Yeah...it's kinda like that. |

Flayed ones can't have attached characters atm in the codex. I was trying to aleviate that to some degree.

The concept behind it was that they are broken beyond repair (mentally) and no quashi-sane lord/cryptek can manage being around them.
Or something along these lines.
And they dont have their own "lord" becase once you o flayed, it doesnt matter who you used to be. even an overlord would be reduced to a mere flayed if infected.

Well, there are Flayed Lords in Fall of Damnos....so there is some passing precedent for it.
I figured part of the reason they are so UTTERLY trash now...is because you can't get a character with wargear in with them. (So no res orbs, MSS, ect ect.)

I'd try the Dark Harvest Flayed ones. They are actually pretty good.
It is really surprising how making them Troops, and giving them Shred for the first combat round of the game, makes them work.

First round of a fight, not game.
And with 3 attacks each base, and possible 20 bodies, you are looking at potentially 80 attacks on the charge. that's nasty with shred. will kill even 2+ saves by sheer number of dice.

I don't know about you guys, but I like the thought of a destroyer/flayer virus crazed themed army. Like the Dark Eldar who have Kabal and Wych builds, and then the Haemonculi Convent builds, make the Flayed One's troops and then you could have not a Sergeant but an Overlord or Lord corrupted by the Flayer Virus. MAKE THE FLAYED ONE's TROOPS
Flayed Ones : Troops - 17 ppm - 20 Models max
WS: 4
BS: 0
S: 4
T: 4
I: 2
A: 1
W: 1
Ld: 10
Sv: 4+
Wargear: Claws
Special Rules: Deep Strike, Ambush
Claws: Count as 2 CCW and have the Rending USR
Ambush: If Flayed Ones are kept in Reserve, they must arrive by Deep Strike. Additionally, when they arrive on the table, all enemy units within 6" MUST take an Initiative Test, and if they fail they are Blinded until the end of their following Player Turn. As a result of their surprise attack they have the Shrouded USR until the Controlling Player's following turn.
Flayed Lord - 180 Points
Even those in the upper echelons of Necron society are not immune to the Flayer Curse, and as a result on rare occasions even Overlord's can succumb to the curse, reducing them into the dreaded Flayer Lord's.
WS: 5
BS: 0
S: 5
T: 5
I: 2
A: 3
W: 3
Ld: -
Sv: 2+
Wargear: Void Claws, MSS, Phase Shifter
Special Rules: Deep Strike, Relentless, Fearless, Ambush, Of the Flayed
Void Claws: Armourbane, Fleshbane, Shred
Of the Flayed: Can only be placed in Flayed One unit or by himself.

No.
You's making them four points dearer and denying them Infiltrate, Outflank and an attack, while giving them rending and the Blind rule that doesn't make Warp Talons work either.
Maybe making them 14 ppm and just giving them Fear and something that mimics Assault Grenades would work, but beyond that there's not much that can be done.

Honestly, I don't think the troops thing really helps them much
they still have no way to take weapons that cause a lot of harm...no wargear, poor saves, slow, with few delivery options.
I gave them the blind on deep strike as a risk/reward thing, making them more likely to live to actually see assault...and a character only they can have...who isn't as good as an overlord, so they could gain wargear that would boost a bad choice to a playable one.
