Subject: What tyranid models are safe to buy?

Hi.
I would like to start up a new tyranid army, but knowing that they will get a new codex i January im not sure if it is a good idea.
Does anyone know if thereare some models that will not get replaced for a looooong time?
Or maybe some models that will most likely be replaced in a short amount of time?

It doesn't matter if the models are replaced. You can still game with them and the ones out now will probably be cheaper.

The Tyrant kit was recently redone (and is very well done) and the Tervigon/Tyrannofex kit is relatively new. I'd say you're safe buying either of them.
As to their effectiveness in the new codex I can't say (obviously) but a Tyrant is a relatively safe bet no matter what.

One rumour says that biomorphs get rules again, so assembling Tyranid kits now can lead to pain for WYSIWYG freaks.
And it is currently not known, if any of the older kits will be recut (gaunts, genestealers, warriors)

I'd say Tyrants, Tervigon/Tyrannofex, Zoanthropes, Lictors, Gaunts of all variety, Carnifex, Trygons/Mawlocs, are all fairly safe from gettings new kits come the release.

I think I read in the rumour post Zoans are getting a new kit?
Wouldnt be surprised if Lictors got a rules redo + new kit too.
Rest seem pretty safe though. But who can tell if GW do go down the new biomorphs route.....
Im personally holding off completely until the new Dex drops.
Got damn lucky with Eldar, my friend less so with his Tau.

I've been toying with the idea of starting a bug army myself. I'm a little worried they'll switch some things to punish Nid players again.
They gleefully nerfed the Carnifex after "encouraging" people to buy a ton of them last time.
i wouldn't put it past them to put an end to the Tervigons in troops and maybe even switch up which gaunt it poops out now that everyone owns so many.

Venomthropes. New mini with no customizing at all. Same for Lictors, and Pyrovores. Sadly right now, minis with the crappiest rules.
HT, should be a fair bet, if you like to magnatize. Same for Carnifex as well if you magnatize it.
Only new mini, I think might or could happen would be Warriors since it's what, 10 years or close to it. But I think it is still an awesome mini, that it doesn't really need to be redone. Not sure if it would be a safe bet.
Thing is, are you afraid of a new kit, or if the rules will change and or biomorphs will change? I think you have to worry about biomorph rule changes than kits.

So far the rumors I have read are extremely optimistic as far as models go. I don't think Zoans are going to get a new dual kit, they might, but I personally don't think so. Same thing with Lictors, mostly because what are they going to be? A single model plastic kit? A clam shell? I think they will safetly stay as finecast for now.
Tyrant and Tervigon/Tyrannofex kits are still new in the grand scheme of things so I think they are going to stay as is. Gaunts don't really NEED an update, Carnifex if they get a new kit it wont be massively different, maybe just new sprues with more additions.
I think Warriors have the best chance of getting a new kit to give them bone sabers, dynamic posing, and a slew of options.

The general rule of thumb is that plastic = safe. Hive Tyrants and Tervigons are the most recent kits so they'll be fine for sure.
