page 106 of the SM codex, Battle-forged Heroes: One UM tac squad can have...say...tank hunters.

Now lets say I give this trait to a 10 man UM squad with Plasma Cannon and Meltagun with a Rhino as dedicated transport.

I combat squad them into two 5 man teams, 5 guys with the meltagun dude board the Rhino, while the others with the Plasma Cannon stay behind. Are both squads still having tank hunters USR or only one of the two?

I'd have said the unit gets the benefit before splitting , but you choose the unit who gets the USR during deployement, after the combat-squadding has occured. So I'd say only one half of a combat-squadded Tact. Squad gets it.

It would have to go to one of the combat squads.

You cannot give it to the full squad and then combat squad them, thereby having two units with Tank Hunter.

I'd say the opposite, as they are both THE chosen Tac Squad. That's my arguement in that they are purchased as a single unit and hence both gain the benefits of something like Battle-Forged Heroes which affects a Tac Squad.

Combat squad says they are 2 entirely separate units once split.

My interpretation entirely depends on when the Battle Forged Heroes rule "activates," whether during deployment or at the list building level. Personally I'm inclined to say at list building level.

You should probably re-read the Battle Forged Heroes rule (p106 C : SM)
Battle-forged Heroes: One Ultramarines Tactical Squad in an army that includes Sicarius (determined during deployment)

You might be inclined to say that but the rules say otherwise.
