As you know PS4 is moving to a paid online service with comparable features and price to Xbox live gold. You may also know that PS4 is launching with several Free to Play titles (Warframe, Blacklight and DC universe, With Planetside 2 slated for 2014).

What you may not know is that the free to play titles to not require the paid subscription, they are almost literally 'free to play'.

I thought this would be of interest to PS4 fans.

Ohhh, color me interested for sure. I've been dying to play Warframe and Planetside on a console...and if they're totally free, I'll be on hog heaven

I thought this is something that people should read. Not trying to start any kind of console war or anything, just making sure people see it.

I think alot of those things are fairly common practise but if not i suppose people have a right to outrage. Like for example if it monitors your activity on the inbuilt browser or inevitable facebook/twitter apps. It doesn't say it does and the gossip is that it won't but if it is the case, that is pretty outrageous.

The thing that annoys me is the fuss people are making about the clause of only owning a license to your game. Similar stipulations have been plastered all over CDs since the 90's and possibly before. Rules like that are never enforced.

I don't think people are making the fuss over owning a license to your game, but rather the way that Sony has done this.

If you buy the physical game and install it to your PS4 but then decide to go digital instead, you have to uninstall the game files and then redownload the whole thing.

I'm not sure how MS has done it and if they are doing it the same way, it's a fail for both companies.

I just wish I could play PS3 games on PS4 :(

I thought they were making the PS4 backwards-compatible with all Playstation-series games?

I read that 2nd hand games won't work n the PS4.

That was the Xbox One. And even that I think they changed.

I haven't been keeping up but Sony would be pretty bone headed to go back on what they said they were going to do with respect to 2nd hand market.

It's also using quite a different processor architecture so even if they weren't interested in even more money old code won't run on the new machine.

Actually it was both. Sony just was saying something that people were not paying attention to in that "The choice was left up to publishers and developers"--which was Microsoft's stance as well.

No that was their second stance. Their first stance was abundantly clear (all your games will be tied to your account) and so asinine they changed it within a day.

They can call it what they want to call it. What they said on May 21st isn't what was being said on May 22nd. in fact what was being said on May 22nd was the opposite of what was being said on May 21st. EDIT: And I'll point out every day up to E3 was a cluster feth of messy information from various sources showing Microsoft was scrambling to control the PR and come E3 they still managed to mess it up requiring another 'clarification' the following week.

I think from the reception of the gaming press/fan sites, unless all of those sites were massively biased against MS, you have probably got that one wrong Kan. Remember the outcry.

So, PS4 will or won't play PS3 games?

I think there is a planned feature where you put the PS3 game disc in and you can stream the game from Sony's servers. They haven't said what that'll cost or if it's free but they have delayed the feature till next year. You defo can't 'Play' ps3 formatted blue-rays though.

They stated that they intend to use Gakai to allow PS3 games to be played via their cloud on PS4.
Odds are in that case it will relate to the PS+ again, but as stated already, it is a good deal anyway and adding more to it would just be amazing.

Can't.

Sony made a mistake with the Cell processor in the PS3. Sure, on paper it was a superior piece of tech, but it was also notoriously difficult to code for and it was a pain in the ass for developers. That's why everyone's using x86 architecture this generation - it's what people are used to and everyone can make stuff work on it.

Cloud save backup, discounts on the online store, early access to demos and betas and entire free games (right now Australians get X-Com: Enemy Unknown, MGS Revengeance, Uncharted 3 and a few others for PS3 and Vita). PS3 and Vita multiplayer remain free as well, it's just PS4 multiplayer requiring PSN+. But yeah, the majority of PSN is free still, even new features like cross game party chat on PS4.

Oh I know that. What I'm more getting at is that the PSN isn't analogous with X-Box Live!. One is a paid service that you have to have to even access other paid services (ie. double dipping), whereas the other one is completely free if you want it to be, and grants access to a lot of the same services without the need to pay for that access.

That's probably what the Gaikai stuff's going to be, when/if that gets off the ground - streaming PS3 games via the web into your PS4. How well it works is anyone's guess, but Sony's throwing their money behind it. It could be great, or it could be nothing special.

Anyone in the states got a ps4 yet? Opinions? Have to wait until the 29th here.

Early adoption is for rubes. Wait 'til the hardware problems and firmware patches are done with, and for the decent second wave of games to come out.

Yeah i'm waiting till Second Son or the Destiny beta. There's going to be a Second Son bundle so i'll be getting that.
