I'm putting together a list for my space marines. I was working out the points on my vindicator and I noticed that it already comes with a storm bolter, but I also have the option to buy a second one from the space marine vehicle chart. The problem I'm having is with one storm bolter on already plus a hunter killer missile there isn't anywhere to put the second storm bolter. So is this a typo and its only supposed to have one? And if not were are you supposed to put the second bolter. I noticed the same problem on the rhino.

Models aren't always indicative of the rules, and shouldn't always be treated as such.

The old hunter killer missiles weren't mounted on the same slot as the 2nd storm bolter so it was possible to easily model two of them. It is harder now, but you can still buy both.

Ive never seen anyone ever take both a stormbolter *and* a hunter killer.. not in 4 editions of 40k so I think people would be more surprised to see those options actually used rather than where they are mounted.

Glue them on the dozer blade for all anyone cares.

I did for most vehicles when assembling them. Including my Vindicator, Land Raiders Crusader and Redeemer, my Rhino, my Rhinoback (Razorback with Rhino transformation ability so it can swap the stormbolter for a blank slot or keep it, plus athe HK) and my Predator.

I mainly wanted it for the vindicator in case of a weapon destroyed result. With more weapons I wouldn't be as likely to lose my main gun.

What would be hilarious to see is 1 enemy model survive a Demolisher Cannon blast due to a 1 roll to wound, then get popped by the storm bolter.

With as many games of 40k getting played every hour of every day, it has to have happened at least once.

Yep. It's happened to me. And the **** thing was snap firing. My friend regularly runs two vindicators and nutty things like that happen a lot. I swear he gets just as much kills from his storm bolters as he does from his cannon.

The old Rogue Trader models used a single bolter for each hatch, attached to the hatch itself. Only later on did they change that to a storm bolter and then on a pintle mount. The old Land Raiders never had a multimelta on them, for example, but the pintle mount was twin heavy bolters. The HK Missile was in a box and allowed to be glued anywhere, so a lot of folk would put it off to the side but still on top of the vehicle.

To be honest, you can mount it anywhere. The higher you mount it though, the better for True Line of Sight (since you measure from the weapon to the target). I personally would be tempted to make a 'ball' Storm bolter and mount it on the front hull, like most tanks have.

But no, it is not a typo. Rhino has a storm bolter as well (same model for the most part). Only the Predator and Whirlwind don't have storm bolters (based off of that model). Space marine Rhino with two storm bolters is not a bad option

I found this idea to be quite clever, I ended up using it on my vindicator and solves the whole problem with very little effort.

It's a shame that the CSM Vindis don't come with a combi-bolter.

Which would be so much better if it actually made vehicles daemons..... I would happily have vindis with a 5++ and regen. But in it's current state it is more or less useless for the points.

Yeah, the models don't have a place for one if you also want a pintle mount. With a bit of trimming of the base for a remote stormbolter, there is a really good spot for it though, in the little flat are ahead of the cupola. I've converted my Linebreaker squadron so they actually have the guns they are supposed to come with.

How about just not attach the top section that blocks the 2 cupolas already on the Rhino chassis? It won't affect the gun and allows 2 weapons.

Because the top section of a Vindicator is awesome looking, and leaving it off, resulting in the normal Rhino hatches and top hatch looks odd.

I love how it's directly above the viewport. Excellent link.

BTW I've lost more NobBikers in a game due to the Storm Bolters from drop pods than to the contents they held. It all adds up!
