Real simple question for you guys, how many ork boys would one need to make a 1850 point green tide (roughly, assuming no vehicles)?

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Divide 1850 by the points cost of the Ork boy int he codex?

Should be 150+, depending on Loota concentrations.

5 or 6 units of 20 shoota boyz is enough to give just about anyone a reason to rethink thier life choices.

But why stop there, go for 6 units of 30 and really scar them for life. You do have the disadvantage of having to move 180+ models each turn tho...

If brute force doesn't do it, you're not using enough.

And i thought my nids were bad horde wise.

Secretly i'd love to have a giant ork army, but i'd have to be rich so i could paint someone else to paint it.

Don't i know it, I stand at 7000+ points of orks (over 150 boyz) still have some painting to do.

Its just that Orks are so much FUN

At 1850, I'd say 90 minimum, recommended 120? The only infantry you're gonna have are Boyz and Lootaz anyway, unless you're running Mega Armoured Nobz or a non-infantry list like bikers, so you need a lot of models on the table other than your Lootaz.

I twitch if anything under 180 boyz is described as Green Tide.

Green ripple, perhaps.

If i was going full on greentide it would be 250 + boyz.

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

I ran 180 boyz once, it was... tedious. The sort of list you either auto-win with or auto-lose (if they have masses of templates), and you have very little say on how the actual game goes

True enough,

Awfully hard on the back too.

I prefer Mekbash. Far fewer models to move.

At that point, one should build a push stick to move models more than one at a time.

You can get 180. You can do

HQ

Big Mek w/ KFF
Big Mek w/ KFF

Troops

29 Boyz +nob w/ pk/bp
29 Boyz +nob w/ pk/bp
29 Boyz +nob w/ pk/bp
29 Boyz +nob w/ pk/bp
29 Boyz +nob w/ pk/bp
29 Boyz +nob w/ pk/bp

for 1490 I think. That maxes your troop choice. Fill in the extra 300ish points with lootas for more bodies.

Can you still see the table? If so, more boyz.

A friend of mine played this list once in a 5th edition 2500 point game:

2x KFF Mek

3x 15 Komandoz

6x 30 Boyz

3x 20 Stormboyz
(a couple of nobz somewhere)
Total: 287 models

The trick is, kommandoz infiltrate in front of boyz, stormboyz jump over the boyz turn one, so starting turn two, you are drowning everything in an endless wave of orks.
They were moving the army with three people each turn. After four hours, at the end of turn three, the IG opponent conceded, because he was unable to get the orks of objectives or his units, not matter how many orks died to each LRBC blast. His deployment zone had close to no empty space at all.

As for "how much do I need?"
3x 15 lootaz 675
1x Biker Warboss is around 155
leaves 1020 points, which might be up to 170 boyz.

Adding toyz will reduce that amount, which is highly advisable, because boyz can't handle everything.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.
