I had a 1000pts battle with my fiend the today and he said he could legally use a baneblade at 1000pts for 500pts using the armoured battle group. He also says that you can have 1 superheavy per FOC. Is this fair and legal?

there is a separate book being released for things like this, (idk if it is released yet) if you are just using the normal BRB or codex FOC then.. no. its horribly wrong.

We are using the FOC in the rulebook. So what you are saying is, it was illegal.?

Of course it's illegal. Tell your opponent to show you where it says they can take a Baneblade.

I did but he conveniently forget the book. He also doesn't have a rule book of his own.

If he can't show you the rules, and you suspect that something is fishy, then ask him to not play with those rules until next time, when both of you can read them.

Also. Does the apocalyptic explosion hit flyers? Because I sent 2 stormravens with lascannons and multi meltas and the resulting explosion killed one.

Then don't play against him until he can provide the rules. When someone is doing something as obviously questionable as claiming that you can have a superheavy per FOC and they conveniently don't have the rulebook it's a safe bet they're cheating.

No. Blasts never hit flyers.

No. Blasts never hit flyers.

Its not a blast though. But i shall ASSUME it wouldn't as things that happen over an area, I.E. explosions, novas and the such like do not hit it.

Although he's cheating so i'd say you actually turn the wreck of the baneblade into another 2 Stormravens.

That does not even make sense; my flakk missile is not a snap shot and rolls a hit; does that hit a zooming flyer?

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

Skyfire weapons have a specific exception to that rule. Blast templates placed by an exploding vehicle do not.

His statement was written as an absolute; I was pointing out that it is not.

It is absolute - unless there's an exception. Almost like that's how rules work...

I think the guy refered to the outdaed 5th Ed rules for Spearheadformations White dwarf supplement and book, it was released at the same time has the Planetstrike book.

With those set of rules you could line up ONE Superheavy vehicle' but the rules stated that due to the noise and size of it, it alread sustained artillery damages before it gets ti the battlefield, thus begining he game with 1 Structure point less then normal.

So yeah in some sens he use offiacial rules, but outdated and incomplete rules.

Actually it took something like 3 glancing hits back in 5th, IIRC. Either way, the answer to the OP is no: No superheavies outside Apoc in a standard game.

The point cost for the baneblade is fairly balanced.

You should let your opponent know it's coming though. Taking a baneblade in 1000 points against someone that is prepared for it is just asking for disappointment. A few deep striking fusion gun suits, some drop pod melta stern guard, trygon coming in behind...

Your friend might be thinking of the FW HH 30K books where there is a special Lord of War slot where you can take a primarch or super-heavy, but that slot isn't part of standard 40k

A 1000 point baneblade in a 1000 point non apococlype battle is illegal. You don't have your HQ or troop requirments.

There is no rule that says you can take 1 Super Heavy per anything. Apocalypse game do not use FOC and instead uses battle formations. To take a formation you must meet the minimum requirements of that formation. For a baneblade formation its just one tank. The points value i so you can set a points limit for your game, but this is an optional rule in apocalypses games.

Those rules were an expansion just like Apocalypse. You wouldn't just pull them out in a regular game without discussing it with your opponent first.

And the OP already said they were playing a standard rulebook mission.

Of course even there you're limited to spending 25% of your points on your lord of war slot. A Baneblade is obviously well over the 25% limit.

A Baneblade does not cost 1000 points. You have enough points to take a Baneblade and mandatory FOC requirements in a 1000 point game, and should even have some points left over to spend on upgrades or additional units. The Baneblade isn't illegal because of point limits, it's illegal because nothing in the standard-40k rules permits you to take one.

What if the kid had brought over an Imperial Armour book and a tank from one of them? Would that be legal in say a game of Big Guns Never Tire, as taken from the BRB?

Only if the unit had the 40k approved stamp. If it doesn't have a stamp then it's not legal in a regular 40k game.

A friend of mine played against a Baneblade in standard 40k - willingly at least this time.

It single handedly levelled his entire army.

Keep that gak in Apocalypse lol
