Hi guys, here at Tabletop Workshop we've just put our castle on sale for pre-order!
After the initial success of its 28mm Medieval Chapel and Cottage, Tabletop Workshop would like to announce its next project will be a highly detailed 28mm Castle Kit. This is a massive piece of kit and contains a selection of walls, towers and a gatehouse. As you’d expect from us, these are highly detailed inside and out.
The castle will be released early next year and we are offering customers the chance to take advantage of our heavily discounted pre-order offer with free stretch goals. Here they can pick up a castle for as low as £90 if they pre-order, this is available from Thursday 21st November. (The combined RRP of the set would be £180 so this is a huge discount). The pre-order offer is limited to a maximum of 150 sets and we are also offering stretch goals every 25 sales. This amazing offer will never be repeated!
For more info http://www.tabletopworkshop.co.uk/pre-order-castle.html
Wondering if it interests you! As always, feedback is appreciated. We're really excited from first glances though!

This is really great, brings something new to the market.. the interior in the walls and towers is brilliant.. do highlight this point, I had no idea that your chapel or cottage had any interior detail/ removable roofs at first and just dismissed them as more expensive versions of the perry stuff. It's a good selling point for the people that want it, so make sure people are aware of it.
You should highlight the fact that you're basically running a kickstarter at this point complete with stretch goals, it'll get more people interested. Add "pre-order with stretch goals" or "not-kickstarter" to the thread title so people get the general idea and give it a look.
Also, kickstarters in general don't always have to hurt retail, Mantic always offers generous pledge levels for retail customers only in its kickstarters and typically sells 3x more product outside of the KS compared to inside it. The marketing boost that the platform offers is the main benefit and consumer interest spills into trade sales. A website preorder is pretty nice though just for the sake of avoiding tons of kickstarter fees (and you also avoid having to end it at a fixed date, instead you can just run it until the 150 preorders fill up), would be great if more companies did them.
One other thing is you really need better images for the different sets, at the moment you have the same pic for all 3 castle types, and there's no easy way for me to figure out scale compared to a typical 28mm model.
In short, great product, but needs to be marketed more, you have some pretty amazing pics tucked 3 clicks into your website, make sure you show them all off on various forums so people are aware of what the kit is really like:

Infinite height, infinite length walls and tower with this kit is another HUGE selling point, as is the ability to place the wall/tower join at any angle... definitely get some more renders up and really show off the good points, its not a boring fixed position/height/angle/ no interior detail kit like the GW fortress, it's a fair bit better than that.
Even if you're not too interested in promoting this one much since you only need 150 preorders, consider keeping it in mind for retail packaging/ trade sales as major selling points to promote.

This is a gripe, it's not really aimed at you, but your castle illustrates it.
Where do the people/soldiers live?
Here we have a very good castle with internal detailing, yet there are no stables, barracks, kitchens etc.
As your kit is built in sections, could you perhaps also consider the above sections as additional parts to the basic kit, with a Central keep / bastion for The Lord and Lady to live in?
Gripe over, a very nice looking kit though.
Cheers
Andrew

Actually, if you click on the link you'll see the stretch goals include both a barracks and an armory (if they get enough preorders). So I assume they'll be available at some point.

Hi Andrew,
I agree with you totally, and we are indeed planning to have add on kits to allow you to have a full keep, and other associated buildngs - basically we are looking at internal buildings that meet with the walls - leave off the back panels of the wall and connect an internal building to it - of course this all takes time and money to introduce and we are a very small company. Please stick with us we will get there.

Thanks for all the comments, and I can't disagree with much you have written - we will indeed be adding much more content/videos etc etc to our marketing in the days ahead. As a small company with deadlines to reach it is not always possible to do everything in the timescales we are working to - We will also be doing some high quality 3D prints shortly to show things off even more. Keep your eyes peeled over the next couple of weeks.

Is there a less symmetrical build of it? The component pic looks awesome, but when together it looks a little bare.

There will be when we get back to work tomorrow - we are going to show how this can form a city/town wall - we are also going to show the finished gatehouse and stretch goals as the week goes by
By the end of the week I want to be able to show all the hoardings in place etc.
We have different tower/wall join angles, and different tower configurations as well - so we are going to do lots of renders to show the possibilities

No problem, glad you like it.
We are also working on a different parapet style as well - a hybrid gothic/fantasy style - So customer will be able to choose which they want.
The pre-orders are an amazing deal, and help both us as a small business, and the customer as they get an awful lot for the pre-order price.
Keep your eyes on us this next week - there will be a lot of updated and new information coming out.
Thanks for the interest.

I keep looking in on your website hoping for more information and pics. I'm having tto force myself to not pre order until I get more info. So please show me more. I'm a castle nut and i'm very excited about the premise of your castle. I like the idea of being able to get into each area of the castle. Will the look and color be the same as the pics. Automatically Appended Next Post: The gatehouse looks great. Can you access the insides and is it detailed? Are you going to have some kind of a keep or manor house for the people to live in. So far I'm liking everything I see.

Hi Ken,
We're trying to update as much as we can on our Facebook page. There's a link in my signature!
We're considering doing a conversion kit to allow 4 towers, 3 walls and a wall gate to be turned into a keep. The top of the gatehouse will lift off so that you can get to the floor below and we'll be detailing inside just like we do for all our other pieces.
The pics are taken from the CAD we are using to make the parts from so that look is exactly what you'll get. As for colour, this will all be moulded in a neutral colour (eg. grey) and will require painting to suit each customers preference.

Certainly looks interesting. However just a few of questions first:
1) Do the walls have specific clip-in points to the towers or are they freestanding?
2) What is estimated postage to Rest of the World for each of the three levels?
3) Would we have the option of being able to delay shipping the pre-order to add on castle accessories and other items released at the time?
4) Roughly when would the kit be released? There is an ongoing discussion in Australia which may reduce our VAT-free threshold on online purchases to only $30 down from $1,000 at the end of Q1 2014, so timing may be important.

If it's plastic, shout it from the rooftops. If it's resin, warn people.

I don't see it on the castle page either - but I'm 99.99% certain it's plastic. That's the mission statement of the company - making hard plastic terrain.

Thanks Ken!
Ehsteve:
1)The castle has specific location points and will all fit together - if you look at pictures of the tower or the buttress on the website you will see the location ribs. So this means that the castles and walls will fit together but not clip together.
If you don't use these location pieces then everything can be used freestanding.
2) - £90 castle has a £10 postage charge worldwide.
- £165 castle has a £15 postage charge worldwide.
- £225 castle has a £20 postage charge worldwide.
3) Can't see any problems with delaying the shipping upon release as long as you notify us upon your order.
4) We can't give you an exact time for release. Our estimate at this moment and time will be around March.
BobtheInquistor: We're using plastic. We'll try shouting this a bit louder!!
In the meantime, for those of you who are interested. Here's a picture of our castle with some of the stretch goals added. This is a set of castle wall and tower hoardings! The wall hoardings will be added if 75 castles are pre-ordered and the tower hoardings will be added if 100 castles are pre-ordered. You can find a full list of stretch goals on the pre-order page on our website. http://www.tabletopworkshop.co.uk/pre-order-castle.html
Enjoy!

How long does the pre-order offer run for?
This is a tough time of year to spend this amount of money!

The offer runs until 150 sets have gone, or until 31st Dec whichever comes first.
We do allow a full upgrade from the basic castle to either of the other 2 offers - so if you can only afford the £90 castle then that books your slot.
If you later want to upgrade then all you have to do is send us an email and we will arrange the extra payment.
Obviously the idea of the pre-order is to bring in some much needed funds while we make all this stuff, so we are giving away insane amounts of castle to achieve this.
But as we appreciate it is a difficult time of year, then the idea of booking the basic version and upgrading could be of help.
pssst...don't tell everyone as we obviously would like as many large payments as we can......
Tabletop Boss.
