Has anyone else noticed how there are almost no named examples of either of these? in BL books they're usually just plot points or simply enabling characters, and there aren't any named SCs outside of Forgeworld (and that one Sanguinary priest).

I'm hoping someone will prove me wrong, but I've never seen any named SCs of either of these outside Forgeworld. So... why the lack of love?

Maybe because they are too complex or bland to write in the opinion of the writers.
Techmarines are a lot like techpriests, with marine benefits. They tend to be very duty-focused, rather than glory focused like a lot of black library characters. Hrm. Apothecaries I found tend to be constantly just running around trying to collect Geneseed during battle. Neither holds a command role in most cases, unless you are in the Iron Hands, and you are a Techmarine?
Honestly, I really enjoyed Techmarine Martellus in Dawn of War 2.

In general, your right, just don't see a lot of love for them.

Yes, they made Martellus interesting, and obviously the Iron Hands would have some interesting characters. Would it be that hard for GW to write a special Techmarine or Apothecary though?

Yes, Corbulo for the BA. He's about the only example I can think of outside Forgeworld.

The main character in the Night Lords Trilogy used to be an Apothecary if I recall right.

That's another good question actually, what happens to Apothecaries that turn to Chaos? Seems like a viable route for Necromancers and so on.

To my knowledge, CSM keep their own Apothecaries just like loyalists do. While they might be somewhat less careful with the health of their Marines, they do want them in fighting condition, and geneseed is not easy to obtain elsewhere.

Hmm, Chaos apothecaries... You'd have to call them "Morticians" or something nice and dark - and read up on the "Mad scientist" trope...

That's a point, Fabius Bile was an Apothecary, so does that count?

Well... a not-apothecary really... Gameplay wise at least.

In general it does seem that they are kind of glossed over. Especially techmarines. They are starting to kind of be the lords over the heavy support section like the CM lords over the elite section. I'd like to see it so that a Captain really boosted troops, a libby went great with the elites, and a techmarine or two could boost devestators or heavy support vehicles or whatever.

Nonsense. The Battle Company box is perfect for filling out your ranks of aspect warriors with a large contingent from the Screaming Baldies shrine.

Guys, we're all aware that Fabby is an apothecary. Cheers for pointing it out.

However, I was thinking more about Loyalist SCs in all honesty... and no, Corbulo doesn't count... bloody Blood angels

I'm thinking, for want of a better term, Apothecary +1 character. In the same way that Cassius is a Chaplain +1 (and some other neat bits). Gameplay wise, Fabius doesn't play like an Apothecary (since I last played Chaos, anyway. I could be wrong). As for Corbulo - I'm just not really a fan of BA.

Agreed, that would be cool. Even something simple like a 1st Company Apothecary that had Special ammo to run with Sternguard, or a Techmarine that gave a vehicle +1BS/AV - things in that vein.

I think in one of the Iron Hands novels they have librarians and chaplians....

I guess they don't pick any SC for most of the books because it gets too specific? I mean a reader/viewer tends to find more things in common with a generic hero character, more people will be able to connect to them on a personal level
