Subject: Is there anything better than mineral spirits?

They cause my oils to crash out of solution. oil washes have been pretty terrible for me. and i mix them like no tomorrow. the problem seems to be the oil pigment settles to the bottom. the spirits does not have the power to keep the oil perfectly suspended.
when i first apply it to a model it looks good but then as it dries and the oil crashes in strange patterns it looks worse and worse.
is there a better kind of mineral spirits or it's all the same?

You are over mixing your washes, too much MS and not enough paint. Additionally there is a product called Liquin, get the fine detail kind, mixing a VERY small amount in will also help, it is kind of like a mixing medium. Also, try doing your washes over a flat surface as opposed to a gloss one. Any lacquer based or water based semi-gloss to flat sealer will be fine with mineral spirits.

Turpentine works fine for me but really stinks. I just bought some odourless artists solvent meant for oil paints but haven't had a chance to try it yet. I've never used straight mineral spirits.
One I keep reading about online but haven't found locally is "white spirits". I have read that it is an odourless mineral spirit but Google tells me it's just another name for regular mineral spirits.
Also what brand of oil paint are you using? The most common one I find in tutorials is Windsor and Newton series 1 oil paints and that's what I use. I have no idea how other brands would react.

You can also go to an art supply store and discuss your situation with one of the employees. They should be able to show you some products that will help and teach you how to mix them more effectively.

Are you using the cheaper student oil paint range? I hear the pigments aren't as fine - this might be the problem...
