I'm entering a tourney at a FLGS probably in Jan and would like some feedback on this army list.

HQ

Company Command Squad, 4 Melta Guns, Astropath, and Chimera: 175

**Chaos Lord w/ Sigil of Corruption: 90 (He's there to tank shots for the CSM squad manning the ADL)

Troops

Infantry Platoon: 140
- 2 Infantry Squads
- PCS w/ 2 Flamers

Veteran Squad w/ 3 Plasma Guns in Chimera: 170

5 Chaos Space Marines: 75

Heavy Support

Manticore: 160
Manticore: 160

Fast Attack

Vendetta: 130
Vendetta: 130
Heldrake: 170

Fortifications

Aegis Defense Line w/ Quad Gun: 100

Tactics:

The goal here is to let the air power and the Manticores do the heavy lifting. Having the unit of Chaos Marines backing an Infantry Squad or two behind the ADL gives me the flexibility of speed bumps with a little bit of objective holding power.

At first glance, the army is a bit light on Troops units. While this may be the case, there are still 30 scoring models and up to 20 of them can hide in the Vendettas.

I'm not sold on the lord's loadout either. 25 pts for an invuln is a lot.

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

Seems like a bit of a 'glass cannon' list. Lots of thing that can be easily destroyed.

I'd be tempted to let the veteran guard man the ADL, drop their plasma and chimera, maybe give them a HWT.

Or you could put the veterans in a vendetta and let a basic guard squad man the quad gun. It's twin-linked, so you don't really need BS 4. Are you even sure that you need the ADL?

Chaos marines are better suited to taking objectives than guardsmen, so it's wasteful to leave them hanging at the back manning the quad gun. I'd rather have a larger squad of them though.

Put your melta guns on squads which are going to ride in the vendettas. Actually being where they are needed is better than +1 BS. If you have a few points spare, you can give the CCS a Plasma Gun or two or maybe a HWT.

Using your warlord to soak up hits on a small squad seems foolish. Better to take the points from his SoC and buy more marines for the squad, I think.

Two Manticores might be one too many. How sure are you that there will be somewhere to hide them both? Don't you already have enough high-strength firepower with the Vendettas? What are you going to do when someone brings a unit in behind them?

Easily destroyed compared to what? It's Imperial Guard. Aside from Russes, this is pretty much as resilient as it gets for IG. The two units who are doing the majority of the heavy lifting, the Vendettas and Manticores, are relatively safe compared to most units. Manticores can hide behind BLOS terrain (if it's available), otherwise pick up 4++ from the Aegis and use range as their primary defense, and Vendettas are fliers meaning they will pretty much always get to shoot first. Heldrakes compete only with Stormravens for resilience.

It's necessary for anti-air and providing cover in case I'm playing on a sparse table. This list is for tournament play so I can't always count on having decent terrain.

This is probably true. Unfortunately, they can't ride in Vendettas. CSM unfortunately have very poor mobility.

Might be worth swapping out some gear for 2 Plasma Guns and a Lascannon on the CCS rather than Melta Guns. I do like having 4 Melta Guns in case I run into a Land Raider, and putting them in a Vendetta IS always an option. The Las-Plas loadout is good unfortunately that leaves me with very little to deal with AV14.

Primary detachment is Imperial Guard so the Chaos Lord isn't the Warlord. He's there because I need an HQ. IF a Warpsmith could repair IG vehicles I'd use him instead. If you have a compelling argument for any other Chaos HQ choice I'd love to see it. A Daemon Prince is something I'd actually entertain in this army.

I know there will be somewhere to hide them because I brought an ADL.

Manticores are there for horde control (Vendettas don't do this), stripping hull points and possibly boning AV14, and T1 obliteration. Last night I had one Manticore salvo kill off an entire mob of 20 Boyz that were spread out fairly well. They're the hardest hitters in the IG codex IMO. The only thing preventing me from bringing 3 is that I simply don't have the points.

As for the points above, the one most interesting is probably alternative CSM HQ choices. I'm not 100% sold on the lord, I just don't know who would be a better choice.

Thus looks cool. Turn one your opponent has to try to kill MANTICORES. If you are set up right he has trouble getting at them both (unless he can get grav cannons close enough) but the main thing is that you bring guys in turn two and still have a goodly chunk of troops left. And you probably dominate the skies at this points level with everything you have. If the enemy is smart they put everything then into trying to kill the vendettas to stop you grabbing objectives - so your hell drake can vector/toast/ dothatthing.

I'd love to play against this list. Be really interesting.
