I've been playing around with Dreadnought armies and I'm hoping that the Clan Raukaan codex will help my little Dreads do a little better.

Chapter Master with The Ironstone and The Gorgon's Chain
Honor Guard, Champion and two Guards, all with the free power weapons, Drop Pod
2 Techmarines and two Servitors

Ironclad Dreadnought, Heavy Flamer, Heavy Flamer, Drop Pod (Three of these)
Ironclad Dreadnought, Drop Pod

Company Command Squad
Platoon Command Squad
Infantry Squad, Chimera (Three of these)

The plan is to drop four pods on turn one. Three dreads and the Chapter Master with Honor Guard with the techmarines/servitors. The other three dreads come in when they can. The scouts are held in reserve to outflank for objective claiming. The Platoon Command Squad can stay on the home objective, while the three infantry squads go forward in their chimeras. The Company Command is the obligatory HQ choice. Hopefully, the Chapter Master with the techmarines can help keep the dreads alive longer to wreak havoc.

Thanks

I think the best one I made had a motf, 6 dreds, 20 tacs, 5 scouts, and a stormtalon, the 2 tacs and one of the dreds had pods. This came to 1500pts. Haven't tried it but looked like fun. Iron hands chapter tactics of course

I used to run a MotF with six autocannon dreads in fifth, but sadly, those are over. I've also run a MotF with a techmarine or two in a drop pods with five man tactical squads. The issue typically seems to be is that the dreads just die to shooting the next turn and they can't be fixed.

This is so true, seen as 6th is more shooting than anything else. Most armies can take high str weps at low cost nowadays. I think the only way to reliably get dreds to survive is in pods and alpha strike for maximum damage turn 1 on their at units. This is so pricey though, really puts you off as your force would be incredibly small.

They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear.

Would Hellfires behind an Aegis put out enough firepower to merit consideration?
