Trying to build a competitive Space Marine list for tournaments. I'm using IF chapter tactics possibly SoT codex. These are the units and theme I heading towards but I'm trying to get it down to 1750 and scalable down further to 1500. So far I'm thinking Alpha with sterns, ironclad, and a tac squad. Lysander rides with centuions in Stormraven and drop out mid field when it comes onto board before it ends its move accompanied by the Stormtalon. last two tacs come in from reserve in Pods. TFC is flexable. Suggestions Please P.S. here's the list I'm working with.

You're going to have issues with the half in reserve rule... Half your force, rounded down, must be on the table.

Drop pods, Flyers and units embarked upon them don't count.

You don't really need the 6th pod on the tfc. You could drop it and use the points for more upgrades throughout your list.

OK, I've dropped the Drop Pod for the TFC. That leaves me at 1945. I need to drop 200 points which would probably be a Tac squad. Would it be wise to add a Scout unit in a LS storm to shore up the loss of a troop. Is the 2 Tacs good enough with chapter tactics at 1750 or should I think about swapping out Lysander out for Pedro to make the Sternies scoring? If I dropped a Tac would it be advisable to add the Drop Pod for the TFC back in?

That is incorrect. You lose if you have no units on the table at the bottom of any turn (after both players have had a turn.)

It still feels troop light to me. You think it would hurt the centurions too much to put Pedro with them instead, take out hurricain bolters on storm raven, and add a small scout squad? That would give me two more scoring units (possibly three) and an Orbital bombardment but I would loose Lysander's awesomeness (plus his ability to tank wounds for cents).

The centurions with grav cannons and hurricane are 250, so there is 10 points there. Also if you are going to use pedro, look for people bitching that your sternguard do NOT score, as they have to be crimson fist sternguard, not imperial fists. He can lead the army, and it is same chapter tactics, but his rule says they have to be crimson fist ones, not that just any sternguard score. It might be a nasty surprise for you.

I was already planning on that and was going to paint up my sternies as Crimson fist. Its fits the fluff as CF consist mainly of first company (since they all got but wipped out on Krynn)so the lend their elite units out in times of need. As they use the same chapter tactics and can be in the same army any ways a unit of CF Sterngaurd in a CF Drop Pod would be extreamly fluffy in my army even without Pedro (a Pedro list just makes it even more fluffy).

You could always drop the stormraven back to a skyhammer talon, also drop the omniscope. That would net you enough points for 5 scouts in a lss. As it is you're sending your only troops into the heart of the enemy so they will cop a lot of fire. Reserve the lss for late game objective grabbing, play them cagey.

Having Lysander tank for the cents is solid. I'd keep him.

You don't have enough bodies. You will get rocked by Tau interceptor if you go against a suit heavy list. I think the key to making this type of list work is max bodies on the table, like at least 60 MEQs, more if you can. Spam in special weapons and Heavy Bolters, and just overwhelm your opponent in bodies.

Seriously though, besides bikes, that seems to be one of the only ways to make tourney viable SM list. I'm not a huge fan of the idea, but I think i could learn to love drowning my opponent in power armor.

ok. I thought it was light on troops (so after talking and thinking this over). I don't want to go just spehss mehreen bodies and I still want to be fluffy so how's this list? .

Only thing is I need to drop 50 points still. Seams to me the TFC or the Stormtalon.
