I had no idea who he was until after he was dead... finding it difficult to even pretend I care.
Out of curiosity, why do people care about the death of a celebrity theyve never met, yet nobody cares about the people who died in the helicopter crash in Glawgow orthe various deaths resulting from the wars, etc.

So we have a celebrity who used his fame and fortune to give back to society, without being an donkey-cave about it, and he died just after hosting a charity event, and the general response is "why should I care?"
And who said compassion was dead...

After inadvertantly humming part of "Isn't it Ironic" I did feel bad for the guy. He wasn't a douche and he gave back. Never heard anything nasty about him in the news. Crappy way to go so young.
That said, all the people posting it up on facebook like they really cared drives me nuts. Not gonna say people don't care but man it got annoying quickly.
I was actually enjoying the newer F&F movies (like 4-6) and was looking forward to another movie to watch while I paint in #7. The acting world won't suffer a bit as was mentioned before since this wasn't someone of the calibre of Heath Ledger but it's still sad he died to so young.

I actually went to middle school with him. I remember him being a really nice kid and everything I hear sounds like he didn't change much. It's a shame. The car was engulfed in flames so I hope he died on impact, otherwise a pretty horrible way to go.

Damn.
I dearly hope both of them died on impact.
That being said, Walker was an adrenaline junky, so its probably how he would have wanted to go.

People tend to mourn the deaths of specific people whose existence they were previously aware of. Absent such awareness, the natural response is "Oh, someone died." If this distinction did not exist we would all be in a constant state of mourning.

I can't help but agree with this.
He was a fairly unremarkable actor that I've never heard of, I find it difficult to care that he died.

I loved his character in the Fast and Furious francise. He seemed a genuine, good guy. One his way to a charity event no less. I hope he died quickly, rather than in fire.
On the other hand, I can't help but find it ironic that the guy who played one of the most major roles in Fast and the Furious, a francise based around racing and fast cars, died in a car crash.
I'm a terrible person :(.

I'd definitely call it an ironic tragedy. He went out doing something similar to the character he played. That said, from what a few people have posted on here, and the fact he was doing a charity that seemed to be no benefit to himself (he was seriously just being a good guy), he seemed like a damn good human being and the loss of any good person is a tragedy in itself. He apparently had some form of talent (people liked his movies), but the true loss was definitely in the loss of a human being. That's what we should remember. And no, I couldn't pick his face out in a crowd-but I hardly see why that should matter.

NO.
What has unfolded is actually almost the complete opposite of irony. It would only be ironic had the franchise he was famous for been named "Slow & Safe".
That being said, while I think he was a terrible actor, I don't think he deserved to die in a fire.

I'd just like to point out that charities are something all celebrities do constantly. It's one of the ways they maintain their ivory tower status over each other and more importantly over us regular plebeians. He was a decent actor. Odd as the F&F star that he gets smoked in a car accident, although one where he and his racer buddy were more than likely speeding like jerkoffs if that photo of a barely recognizable vehicle is anything to go by. Two adrenaline junkies who love their fast whips were not 'joyriding' in a Porsche. They were showing off and paid the price. I bet people would be singing a totally different tune if the headline said 'Paul Walker dies in car accident, kills 3 bystanders as well'.

According to most of the articles I've seen on him, he was 40... which is by no means "early" in life.
Like many people here, I actually fail to see the tragedy here. His F/F movies were a theatrical tragedy, and since I can't name any other movie he personally was in, then I can fairly well surmise that his career as an actor was as well.
I do think it sad how bent out of shape "us plebs" can get over the death of someone so "important" as a movie star, but don't get the least worked up over some of the other ways in which people die (at least, on a national/international level)

Lots of people die while doing good things. You think we should have a thread for every soldier that died while serving his country? No, the relevance here is that this a famous person who died, and so it becomes bigger news. Remember there was another person in the car, also on the way to the charity event, and no-one even bothers to learn that guy's name.
The issue then becomes one of exactly how famous this guy was. I mean, personally the only film I ever saw that Paul Walker was in was Into the Blue, and then I was fastforwarding all the bits that weren't Jessica Alba in a bikini, so I'm basically unmoved by the guy's death. But to people who loved the Fast and Furious movies, it makes sense they'd be bothered by this. “We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Its a tragedy for his family, his friends, colleagues and the people who knew him personally.
They have my sympathy, but not my grief. Its not my tragedy - I didn't know the guy and neither do most people here (except of course for the guy who said he knew Walker from school), so joining in and announcing to the world that we're grieving for him would be shallow and tacky.
Walker's family, friends and co. should be left to grieve in private, with minimal intrusion from the Media (other than the usual public statements and obituaries etc). Mass outpouring of grief from the general public for famous celebrities they never met is tacky and insulting to the people who really are grieving.
Case in point. Princess Diana.
Does that make me a sociopath? No. It just means that I'm honest.
