Hey all. I've been playing the Grey Knights for a couple years now and I've built up quite a bit for the Inquisition side of my army. I even had an idea of building a IG army to work as an allied force so I could use their heavy support options. But, seeing that they have released a Inquisition Codex I'm wondering if there anything in it that is actually worth it? Also, does that codex super seed the GK codex that I've used for this part of my army? I've put a good bit of work into this part of my army and if the new codex just flushes it all away I may as well just sell that part off. I hope someone can help me out with this.

C:Inq does not replace the GK codex.

Pretre is right. It's its own codex, which doesn't supersede your own 'dex.

I'm really liking the Inquisitor dex.
I've always wanted to add a bit of Inquisition to my Guard force, without adding Grey knights (or the Imperiums most widely cloned man: Coteaz).
Now it's possible.

Most of Codex:Inquisition is a copy/paste from the GK codex... in fact it seems to contain less as it only has 2 named inquisitors instead of the 3 from the GK one. GW did however include a couple powerful rules that make this codex relevant. First off, an Inquisitorial detachment is an additional attachment (Main Army, Allies AND Inq detach.) Secondly you can choose to include just 1 or 2 inquisitors who are battle brothers with all Imperial armies.

Where they dropped the ball: No additional rules, characters, ordos, or units.

GW certainly could have included a lot more meat on the fluff bones of this codex, but i am not too disappointed for $24. I knew what was included before I bought it.

I always wanted a slew of inquisitors, one in each squad, now i can take GK as primary, with coteaz and Inquistor A, take 6 warbands as troop, ally in 2 inq detachments with an additional 2 Inquisitors each: inquisitors B, C, D, E. fluffy? yes! game changing... a little, game breaking? not at all.

What Codex:Grey Knights can do that Codex Inquisition can't.
  • Take Inquisitor Valeria
  • Take any of the 4 big assassins
  • Include a Banisher in a warband
  • Take a Storm Raven
  • Take any type of grey knight unit

  • What Codex:Inquisition can do that Codex Grey Knights can't.
  • Take more then 1 henchmen warband with an inquisior other then Corteaz
  • field warbands with out corteaz or grey knights
  • Make henchmen scoring with out inquisitor corteaz*
  • Take a priest in a warband
  • Take a Land Raider of any type as a dedicated transport
  • Take Valkyries
  • Be battle brothers with an imperial army
  • be included in an amy that already has a primary and allied detachment from two other codices*
  • *not at the same time

So yeah, there are some trade-offs but as some one who got codex grey knights because I wanted to play the inquisition I am very pleased with this codex and see it as an upgrade. It might just be wishful thinking but the 4 assassins might have been excluded becouse they will be released as a dataslate formation. Same with Valaria, she might be a dataslate character but I actually don't expect that one and I'm not sure why she would have been left out.

Oh, and the fluff section (it makes up most of the ebook) is very cool aswell. It deals with more then the 3 big branches of the inquisition. For example the fluff behind my inquisitors is that they are members of the ordo mechanicus, something I did not know about until I got this book.

What inquisitorial units have you made? I'll let you know if you can play them in the new book and what you would need to take to use them with IG.

I've got 5 chimera's, and spare rhino's. I've made 10 henchman warbands. I've done inquisitors for every ordos and have Corteaz. I've experimented with a couple different lists using them. I've crossed bits and use different models. I use converted lizardmen as jokeraro. I also have an Redemsionists gang from Necromunda. I've gathered together quite a few different models for this side of my army. I've even converted out an rhino for one of my inquistiors. I've proud of my conversions. Though, I still need to paint them.

And now according to the rules you can field 12 squads of henchmen and 6 inquisitors!
GK primary and 2 inquisitorial detachments. I want to do something similar, but half my henchmen squads are drawn from my IG army to save $$.

The codex isn't good and it isn't bad.... it just has a very niche purpose. It is pretty forgettable overall though....

For a GK codex, it has a very niche purpose of allowing you to to field a solid pure inquisition army.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
