I'd rather make those vets into sternguard and have a 10man sternguard unit combat squaded into a drop pod along with 4 combi meltas or weapons of your choise instead of them vanguards.
But hey that's just me... BLACK RAIN!

I personally stay away from the tacticals. Its not fluffy, and I personally feel that Crusaders are better. Get a few more scouts and charge those blobs!
also, razor backs can't carry units of 10 - their limit is 6.

Ibelive thats why he have tacitcal squads so he can combat squad them, having the ranged weapon on foot with 4 other marines while the rest goes forward^^ as for fluff choise.... You can say
They are crusaders but just under other rules

Just a note: Vanguard Veterans take up an elite slot now
I would suggest making the Tac squad crusaders so you get rid of the character in each squad
|
Templars - 4500pts
Excoriators - 1500pts
Catachan 1074th- 2000

But taking out the sergeant means youre not making use of rerolls to hit and rending in challenges.

That is true but he had no upgrades listed for the sgts so there is no real point in having them

I figured a chainsword that rerolls to hit and has rending is better than no chainsword at all for the same points.
