So being from the USA it doesn't look good for us, that we are in the group of death. Portugal and Germany, and Ghana.. Ouch!!

Miracles happen. Maybe CR will remember he's playing for his home country not his professional team and flop in the cup.

Yeah, this isn't going to be pretty.

As long as my precious Italy get through I'll be happy, would love Uruguay to get through too.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

I'll never forget the conversation I had with an American during the last World Cup, a giant of a man from who proclaimed in a loud and thick Texas drawl "I can't wait for us to go out in the first round, then Americans can go back to watchin real sports !"

I tallied up the teams’ world rankings for each group. Group G (Portugal (5), US (14), Germany (2), Ghana (24)) total in at 45. Twelve points lower than the next closest group (Group D: Uruguay, Costa Rica, England and Italy). The rest of the groups are between 81-113.

I don't know if you meant to make a joke there, but knowing Rinaldo he will definitely flop.............. more than once. His tendency for flopping is the only thing that keeps him from being the "best" footballer in the world, in my opinion.

and more CR floppyness...

I give best footballer to Messi.

Oh I'm aware of his tendency. I was meaning more in that he normally is an amazing player, until he plays for his home country in the cup.

I give best footballer to Messi.

Based on pure tenacity alone, I agree with you. Man is a machine.

in the UK -

Flop means to play badly
Dive means - Fell over because there was a slight breeze when someone ran past without touching the player.

I love seeing CR beat players. He's good enough to keep his feet and beat almost any player he wants. But then he goes and ruins it by diving...gah.

It's too bad there are no players like Vinny Jones to sort him out anymore

I'd give the title of "best footballer" to either Dan Carter or Kieran Ried though

Ah - those would be 'footballers' who play one of those versions of 'football' where you get to use your hands...

You mean a sport that's described as being the toughest team sport in the world to play? or the one that even grown, 250+ pound guys who are self-proclaimed "hard men" go all wobbly kneed at? (looking at you, NFL players) When even The Rock says, "nah, that's too rough for even me"(to be fair, at least The Rock has played the game in the past, most other people who are too afraid to will never know how awesome a sport that Rugby Football is)

Compared to the sport where the videos below are almost considered the norm?

They ain't exactly footballers though are they...

They probably spend too much time on their feet to be classed as a great footballer.

PS:Cristiano Ronaldo - pah, he's not a diver...
Google Jurgen Klinsman. Now he was a diver

A game where you have 20 teams per side where you spend 3 hours on the bench before you come on the pitch, 95% of your side runs 3 foot into their corresponding person and you then go back and sit on the bench again because you are not a specialist in that particular 10 yard section of the pitch?

Compared to the sport where the videos below are almost considered the norm?

Nah, that is just football. A game for cheating wusses.

Rugby is a proper sport.

Edit: Just googled those names and see you are actually talking about rugby, not girls rugby (American Football)

We've had this discussion before SilverMk2. Watch a game of NFL, then change your opinion

That game last night of Eagles/Lions, played in 6 inches of snow was fething brilliant - was just laughing so hard at the early attempts to play in driving blizzard

I take it you didn't watch the qualification game the US team played in Colorado this year?

We use the term "Dive" as well. But I think flop is more of a basketball term. It has become an art form for the Celtics.

As far as CR..I'm glad I didn't start watching Premier league when he played for Man-U, otherwise I would probably not be a fan.

I'll hope for the best for Team USA as a point of national pride, but Germany is and always will be my #1 when it comes to football.
