I think the addition of a belt, would be good on the, it would also help hold the coat in at her waist.
What were you thinking about for her hat? You did a press mold of a Khorne icon last time right?
The medal is a great idea, i have really got into sticking Purity seals everywhere on my marines, i think the adition of something like that would be very good. But maybe more of a inpurity seal

@Wehrkind - Thanks! I bet you could do it if you tried! I didn't think my big fat fingers would let me do it either, but you just have to not breathe...at all...for a few seconds. That will keep your fingers steadier, and it also helps for not blowing the bit you are working with to some far away place where you will never find it.
"Ack, ack,ack. Ackk! ACKK AAACKKKK!"
-When Mars Attacks
@Zefig - Thanks! Yeah, I need to build up the back of the neck, thanks for pointing it out. And I need to cut the legth of the neck down a bit too. All in good time.
@ El Vic - Yes, I am almost thinking that I wish I hadn't tried the rivets on the face plate. I need to do 4 more of them! Oh well, it does look good, I guess I'll keep going.
@M0rdain - Yep, I have already given her a belt for her holster, and her scabbard will also be hanging from ropes attached to that belt, and I need to re-do her sash. I have already added an Eagle to her hat that looks very much like the one I mocked up. I think it's far enough away from GW aquilla to pass. But I did sculpt it myself. For the scabbard I am using a Berzerker's scabbard that I have shaved down a bit to look less chaotic. These commissioned Commissars are not going to be Chaos though, they will be joining a Vostroyan Army when I am done with them, so good old Imperial icons when possible. I'm going to try to stay away from IP infringment if I can. As such, I may remove the scabbard and hat icon before the mold and resin copies are made. Just to be on the safer side. I can then re-attach them for the final model. And I'm thinking of something Iron Cross-ish for a lapel medal. I think I can pull that off. *crosses fingers*

lol... that is due to the other amount of linkies he is sporting...
as for the skullrivets... have you seen the way shosolenzabi does his rivets? he uses glue... PVA the most part aplied drop by drop with a very small aplicator... i have seen it done by just a toothpck too... this coule help you on this endeavor as i really think the rivets on the skull look like they are needed there... so i totally vote for you to loose all your last amounts of sanity due to this project^^
also maybe it would be a good idea to simply make only one or even three heads done that way and get the rest casted? after all you did that with the bodies too?
just an idea of mine...

@ El Vic - I have tried the PVA glue method to riveting, I just don't have that amount of patience. And my hands shake a bit, which is amlost not even noticable, but at that scale, I need some wiggle room for errors. I have thought of getting them cast, and I probably will, I just want 5 slightly different heads to choose from. But maybe I am over-thinking it too. I'll see how the next couple of heads goes, and see if I want to keep going or not. As for sanity...what the heck is that?
@ Dstein - is anyhting ever quite finished? There are minis I have that even after I just get done painting them, I see something I want to change, and it bugs me every time I see the mini!

i totally second that statement here... also i think it shows volumes of your ability to see quality! we do aim for it...and if i say so for myself... it is a learning process to get hand and eyes and the brain into one line...
also...i have thought about maybe going a different route... what about making some rivets by a step by step process...like making a negative pressmold of the skullface...then adding indents of the suppesed to be rivets on the right spot... then bring the skull and some fresh GS... well i think you get my idea even now...? sounds like a plan? methinks so... would hate to see that great potential of some wicked evil looking skulls go to waste...

You see. It takes some who thinks about rivets all day long, and maybe even dream about them, to come up with such a simple yet innovative idea as to make inverted rivets in a press mold! Holy Crap! what a great idea! Now I have to go and clean off the rivets I've already done, so I can put this amazing idea into action! It make take a few days for me to find the time, so bear with me. But soon we will see the results! Brilliant!

Yeah Vic, Work/Life/Family can really get in the way of quality hobby time. Just last night my oldest took especially long to go to sleep. She kept getting up and wanting stuff. And the wife wanted to watch TV, so I was watching the youngest. But in all honesty, the youngest can be easily entertained by placing her in the swing and just singing to her.
So there I sat, at my desk, sculpting and singing a lulliby while the baby slept next to me. Quite the cute moment. *ahem*
So, anyway! Like I said, I got some stuff done last night! (lots of pics!)
Here you can see the hat icon, belt, scabbard, holster, coat sleaves, and the beginnins of the sash.
I still have some details to wok on, but she's coming together.
I have also been working on hands. Here is the right hand, that will be holding the sword. (pictured next to a GW Cadian hand for reference)
It looks a bit rough, which I will smooth out, but she will be wearing gloves, so some roughness is to be expected.
El Vic, you will appreciate this one! I re-did the Seargent's head! I added bulk to the hat, gave her a different hairdo, and gave her ears!
And last but not least, I think I am finished with the soldier's gas mask, and here it is posed with a hose from Zinge Industries.
That's all for this thread, I will also have an update in my World Eaters thread, you kind find the link to that in my sig below.
Thanks for looking! C&C appreciated.

the scabbard is for my liking a bit too thick...sorry mate too bulkish for that thin fermale and her possibly thin sword she would wear...wouldn´t use a CSM scabbard there...
the sarges head looks now very good!

Vik, I hadn't noticed, but it does look like a spade! Good eye! I still need to go back and clean it up and trim here and there on the cap, so I hope I can fix that! (also, I don't want to make it look TOO much like the IG symbol, just "inspired by".)
Yes, the scabbard is a bit thick, but compared to her sword, which is a bit thinner but longer, the sword still wouldn't fit in the scabbard. So in keeping with GW standard, there is no possible way the weapon would fit into whatever it is supposed to fit into. A bit big, yes, but after I add her flowing sash tails on the other side, I think it will balance the model quite well.
About the gas mask, it is separate from the head, and should be able to be placed on any of my female heads, including the Sarge. GS straps would have to be added of course, but that's all part of the hobby, right? And they are just in case I want gas masks, I like the look. They won't be on my whole army, just maybe certain units to make them look different. And yes, maybe pilots. That would be cool!
That is the third hand I tried to sculpt. I didn't even bother taking pictures of the others. The hand is currently attached to the commissar, it was such a small addition, I also didn't bother taking pics. I am about half way done with the sword, and then I will update. I am also working on making a plasma pistol. It's not even close to being done, but I have sculpted the hand for it, and that looks promising!
And cute moments? Yeah, I think they are the only reason people continue to have children! If it wasn't for those very rewarding moments, I don't think I would do it! (That might sound harsh to those without kids, but I bet the ones that have kids will understand!)

quoted for the truth... yep...and if there wasn´t occasional sex...men wouldn´t put up with wimmen^^ lol...that was sarcasm...slightly...^^

those were my thoughts too... i knew you would aim also for that realism thingy here... the future sword she might hold should fit...and the scabbard sure does the job... so we will have to wait and see the further stages...^^
the gasmask is seperate??? relooked that pic again and now i think i see some lines that indicate that ... what a clever idea...and i bet it will be looking cool to have some exhauset looking soldies with their masks hanging down... i remeber my own time when i had to wear these things... yucky and quite straining...
i once tried sculping an hand...boy was that frustrating...

Slight sarcasm, huh? LOL
On the scabbard, yeah, I hope it looks good at the end, but if it doesn't, it will come right off. So nothing too serious if it looks odd.
Yeah, I never liked wearing gas masks myself. But I like the look!
Space Marine hands aren't that bad, and I have done some bigger ones for daemons and obliterators, and they look better, or at least they are easier.
In a some-what related note, I have ordered some horse miniatures for a scale reference when I start on the centaur sculpts! I'm excited to start on these! Also, since the horse bodies are fairly big compared to humans, I figured I would need some kind of cheaper body filler than Gray Stuff or Green Stuff, so I ordered a pound of Apoxie Sculpt. I can't wait to see how this stuff works! I've read a bunch of reviews, and it's not quite like GS, as it won't hold fine detail, but just to use to get the basic shape, and then I can add detail with GS, I think (hope) it should be more than good enough! I want to try it in press molds too! (I think I might be getting Instant Mold for Christmas! *crosses fingers*
Anyway, getting towards the end of the day! Yay!

lol end of the day...
as for the apoxie stuff... from your description it sounds like the stuff they sell in the hardware stores...this two colored epoxy glue or kneadatite stuff...i guess to create a basic shape it will be quite enough...
and instant mold could be very much bethe blessing for your skullheads problem ...
and we all like others wearing gasmasks... try running around in them for 20 min and you hate them^^
by the way... where did i overlook your discussion of making centaurs? that must have totally escaped me...will they be for the chaosy army or for something fantasy related?

LOL I had to go back myself to find it!
It's 2 pages back. Wehrkind, the guy doing my casts for me has commissioned me to make centaurs for him, more in the fantasy line. He wants smallish ones and larger ones, male and female. So, I figure 2 or 3 different horse bodies, with 1 or 2 poses for the male and female torsos, several heads. Several different poses for the arms. Some are going to have armor and some won't. (I think I can do the armor as a separate piece) All in all, it will be quite the monumental sculpting job!
I told my daughter about it. She's not quite 3, and all she can talk about now is Daddy making her horsey and rider toys! I will have to keep these on a very high shelf, or they might end up missing! Me telling her they are not for her did no good whatsoever. I'll just keep my mouth shut at home from now on.
Additionally, I want to make some special characters too. Like Shamans, Warchiefs, and such. I'm really stoked about it!
However, I don't know if 'll get much done on them until after the new year, but I can get a start on them at least.
Commissar #1 still has a long way to go after I get the body back from the shop. So there is that project to work on too.

my kids are bugging me too all of the time to get their own armymen... at least my oldest will get his own force soon... will try to make an arbites kind of force for him... in his age (probably six by then) he is still really into policemen^^ and the minis i already did i can leave out in the open just on my desk... the worst that can happen is that my wife makes a face because of my untidy desk... the kids are totally in for their fathers work and like to watch me when building... mind you my younger son is also just became three... so i am quite honored to say that my kids treat their fathers hobby wuth the greatest respect! i dunno how i did that but..heck won´t complain^^
