Subject: Female Commisar - New Projects start on Page 14!
@ M0rdain - I made a quick mock-up of what I want it to look like. See below. I hope it turns out like I want!
@ JB - Yeah! I can totally see what you mean! (I had a pretty good idea of what you were talking about, but I had to look it up...Thank Goodness for Google!)
@ dsteingass - Christmas Vacation FTW!
@ Vik - Thanks! And I'm sure I'm not the first one to think of this, so copy away!
As for the mock-up:
Rivets around the eye/face piece, to show that it can be replaced if/when it becomes too damaged, or before the helmet is re-issued to the next wearer.
Lenses in the eye sockets. Maybe even a few with targeters over the entire eye.
Latches/hinges along the seam in the middle of the skull.
Air tubes coming from the collar to the faceplate.
Maybe even some electrical gizmo on the back of the skull to show that a HUD or comms is installed.
And Ear Cups for comms.
We'll see how this all comes out. All the bits are so small!

Thanks Vik! Hopefully I'll be able to get some stuff put on these skulls sooner than later. Last night was filled with me re-fitting the lapels on Commissar #2, and getting started on her cap. I'll get some pics when the cap is done.
I also started cleaning my Rhino that about a year ago looked like this:
And more recently look like this:
I was trying to make a Defiler. I still think it was a good concept, just beyond my skill.
But since I recently acquired another Rhino,
I have decided to clean up the old one, repair it, repaint it, and get it back into action for my World Eaters! I also have a Mk I Predator that has seen better days, I might look into converting it into a Rhino as well.
Then after cleaning up the new one and heavily converting it and dedicating it to Khorne, I'll have 3! Almost enough to field all of the Berzerkers I have!
Thanks for the video Dave! Can't go wrong with the Grizwalds! I have to find my DVD of Chirstmas Vacation and watch it on Christmas Eve, it's tradition!
I watched that and A Christmas Story on Black Friday, as is my tradition That's a nice Rhino! Looks familiar

Gotta stick with your traditions...otherwise it's not really tradition...right?
Thanks! I had to re-use your picture of the rhino, as I forgot to take one before it's bath! Yeah, it's sitting in Simple Green right now! I'm not sure what I painted my other one with 15 years ago, but after 2 weeks of Simple Green, the stuff is barely coming off!
I would've just re-primed over that paintjob if it were me, but that's cool.

lol... i knew i knew that rhino^^... small world...
and as for the grizwalds...anyone have heard here of the term: "fremdschämen"? in english it could translate to: to feel ashamed of/for someone else... when i see the griswaltz... thats how i fell... saw that series way too often... and it sends shiver down my spine... each time
and jake... that defiler sure has potential...but you do realize that only one step is needed to make it look much more working?...
Ya d00d, Weety even added rivets to her vintage Rhino.

There are some TV shows where the charaters are cruel to eacher other, but more often there seems to be shows where the cruelty is done to the viewers! Jersy Shore and Big Brother come to mind. There is also a whole network devoted to that theme...it's called Lifetime Network!
Death Sentence? Not at all! I'm looking forward to it! I just love the look that rivets add! And as for bolts, I figure the armor panels on the front of the vehicle might get damaged on a regular basis, and would need a quick way of replacing them, right? I'll have to get some hex rod for that though.
for my sins, i have watched the first season of the german based big brother ...one can really feel the drain of intelect when you take it too seriously...now i avoid the documentuaryseries or RL soaps...my brain is too special for me
and this actually sounds like you could be entiteld for the leaque... dedicated riveters are always highly sought for^^
Off Topic: my wife just called. She is home on maternity leave, but has been going in to work to help from time to time. Today she went in and the girl who is her temp replacement was using my wife's water bottle AND her CHAPSTICK! Gross!
Sorry, back on topic.
Just watch this space for rivets galore! But it might take several weeks before I get there. I'll most likely have Commissar #2 done before that. She's coming along nicely.
Lifetime? I though that was the man-hater's network.

@ Dstein - yeah, I was just saying that Lifetime is dedicated to what Vik translated to: "in english it could translate to: to feel ashamed of/for someone else" type shows. Except for "Army Wives", my wife watches that, and I have to admit to watching a few episodes myself.
ANYWAYS....Back on Topic...As promised, new pics!
I still need to work on her arms of course. And from certain angles, she still appears to be overly busty, but if you move her a bit, you can see that it is mostly her lapels that are creating that illusion.
I plan on giving her a belt to attach her holster to, the all important sash, and some sort of eagle icon for her hat. What about a medal of some sort on her lapel?
I made a mock up of what I am thinking of doing...any opinions?
Well, that's it for now, I'll be working on her arms this weekend, and also her hands and weapons. And then we'll see about fitting her to the base.
We refuse to take sides in this anymore. And we refuse to let you turn us against one another. We know who we are now, we can find our own way between order and chaos...
It's over because we've decided it's over. Now get the hell out of our galaxy! Both of you.

Wow updates! You have been a busy fellow! Much more so than me, at least in the modeling aspect. (I am plenty busy programming forecasting methods into Excel, unfortunately :( )
The commissar is looking really great so far! I have question about how you are going to do the rivets on the skull trooper too. Well... actually that was it.
How are you going to do the rivets on the skull trooper?
I have tried using plasticard punched with a leather punch, dabs of glue and the tops of pins, but everything seemed like way too much effort, and I glued more to my fingers than the models. I was thinking about buying one of those rivet makers that you jam a piece of melty plastic into, but sort of lost interest after that. What is your scheme, or just infinitely more patience than I have?
@ Miss Dee - LOL! she does look a bit like a ticket taker!
@ Wehrkind - I have gleaned a bit of usefull info on rivet making here and there. I don't know about others, but for vehicles and larger items to rivet, like Orks, I use small hole punches I found at a craft store, or styrene rod. Depends on the applicatation. For smaller stuff, I use a very small styrene rod, I think it's .5 mm. But even that was too big for the face mask. Here is the skull after I tried to put rivets on the brow line, but they were too small, so I took them off, and will be putting 3 more on it.
I rolled a very small amount of GS into a very thin tube or snake, and just kept rolling it until it was almost too thin to roll any more. And then let it cure. (This roll has been cured for a week or more.) Then I cut very small bits off the end. Those are the rivets. The small little bits that are circled are the rivets I have cut off.
It's hard to see from this angle, but the width is about 0.25 mm. A little thinner at the end where I was cutting.
Then using a toothpick, I dab a very small amount of Super glue to the desired location and then using the very tip of an Xacto knife, I place the rivet where it's supposed to go. It doesn't always go where I want it to, so I might have to move it a bit if there is time before it dries.
I couldn't tell with my eye, even up close, but the rivet on the left is a bit bigger then the others. I hope it looks ok after painting.
And a side shot, you can see the latches on the helmet. The neck is actually a bit too long and looks wierd on a cadian body.
This angle doesn't look to bad...it actually looks like the Martians from "When Mars Attacks"
And here are 3 other helmets I'm working on. I'm going for different lenses in each one.
And that's all the updates I have for this blog, I have a bit more done on the Commissar, but not enough for an update. I have some updates on the rhinos, but I'll be updating my World Eaters blog with that stuff...maybe tomorrow.
And El Vic, Yes, I have a scabbard for the saber in the works!
*blink blink* I am going to have to add that to the list of things that I just accept that I will never have the manual dexterity to do Awesome explanation though, and man, makes me want to watch Mars Attacks again
Skull helmet's looking really awesome dude! The back of the neck could use some bulking up though I think; it doesn't look like it's big enough to fit an actual neck inside. It's particularly noticeable in that second to last picture. The rivets are looking sweet though, along with the other random gribbly mechanical bits, and the eyes especially look ace. They're gonna look super creepy once they're painted.
