I think that the $40 for what is essentially a single Crisis Suit is ridiculous. So, I was wondering if I could get some help on what to add (or take away) to a regular Crisis Suit that would make it more like a Commander. Some of my ideas so far include...
-A different looking head
-Getting bits for the Commanders weapons
-Changing the stance to look like the GW Commander

What do you think? If you have pictures too that would be great! Thanks.

A nice scenic base making it stand out from the crowd would go a long way.

Ok, sounds good. What about the model itself? Do you have any suggestions for that?

Paulson games does some nice "not tau" varient weapons that would help make a unit stand out.

The biggest change on the commander suit is the waist. Maybe try and cut it and insert something suitably turnable?

Here are some tips:

1) Easy version:

- Add an addition aerial to its helmet.
- Ask a friend who plays Eldar if they have any of those flags that come with Dire Avengers lying around and stick it to his back.
- Make a scenic base.

2) Complicated version:

As above, plus the following:

- With some cutting and greenstuffing, you can put a Fire Warrior shoulder pad on its chest.
- Make new shoulder pads similar to the one on the Riptide's left arm. With green stuff and/or plasticard, it's not that hard.
- Use a different head. Either from the Riptide kit, or from the Broadside kit. Maybe even a drone.
- Speaking of drones, you can use one to make a power generator similar to that on the Broadsides on its back.
- The commander kit comes with four hands, so if you know someone with one, see if you can trade for the excess hands and stick them on your guy.

To the guy that said paulson games ---- I agree.
They have some cool guns which can be used for broadside conversion but you can get smaller version to use as other guns.

They also have mech heads which are perfect to set the model apart. You can also cut the arm at the joint and make it straight and that would make it stand out a bit and you can also shape one leg to a bending position using a razor saw, some green stuff and a few firewarrior shoulder pads.
Here is something a guy did from tauofwar blog using paulson games bits

So other than the base and the head, how do I mod the arms and legs to look different or more bulky. I am just trying to find a few more ways to set the Commander apart. Like I saw the picture that was posted of the Commander with Paulson Games bits, but how were the shoulders done, and what was bought to do that kind of modding?

You can cut the arms to make them straight instead of the 90 degree angle they are at now
You can do this with the legs to to make it more similar to the commander pose.
To do the arms and legs all you need is a knife, some hobby glue and some green stuff depending on how you cut it.

I have seen people actually take the body and cut it above where the legs go and cut 2-3 plasticard sheets in it to make the body a bit more elongated and you can make the top face slighty to one side.
I can't seem to find the site I found that on though sorry. Here is the look you would be going for by cutting it...notice how to body is elongated and look at the stomach area

The swap of the hand with a power fist to have a pointing finger is also pretty common.

I'm going to cross two items off that list. I would not use the weapons provided on the Crisis commander model. Go with dual plasmas, dual fusions or dual missiles instead. The stance of the GW commander is silly, so you don't need to do anything with that. If you're considering conversions, I would recommend checking out my thread (link in sig) and looking at some of the stuff I've built, and asking any questions you want.

Now, I totally agree with building a better head. You can either just use one of the newer "cyclops" heads that come with the Broadside/Riptide kits, or you can build your own variant. If you're new to modding tau, I would direct you to the following forum:
http://advancedtautactica.com/viewforum.php?f=21&sid=1b58c3a38030068c9810814b27403e6b

Be aware that the Moderator team on that site are a bunch of humorless toolbags, but the forum itself is home to a TON of curated, useful modeling resources specifically for tau players.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
That site will have resources for chopping and reposing crisis arms and legs, building the head, modding the torso, and building bigger, badder weapons from scratch.
