Hey guys, so my cousin is always running his orks against my tau and he loves a good squad of mega armour with mad dork which really pisses me off lol!

We're going to be playing an 1850pts game soon and was wondering if a done had any decent tips on an army list and something to rid me of that pesky mega armour!

Just wreck the transport. They are more than likely in a Trukk so they can be delivered quickly, which is a 10/10/10 paper bag.

Without it they are a terribly slow blob that isn't a threat at all, especially considering Tau mobility. They can't even perform Run moves, not even considering the whole Mad Dok thing where you can kite them around.

Ion Accelerator Ritpides will do the trick; so will double plasma crisis teams. Either way give them some marker support.

Orks are one of if not the easiest matchup for Tau; you shouldn't have a problem.

I can attest to this. Nob Bikers are good troubleshooters, but aside from this Orks have a really awful time against Tau.

5+ save. He's cheating.

Edit: Well probably not cheating, but unaware. Get him to check out the latest Ork FAQ. Vehicles count as 'obstructed' and grant a 5+ rather than the old 4+.

Edit2: Remember Markerlights with 2 stacks can remove Cover Saves. The KFF counts as a Cover Save. Rack them up, and knock them down with something like a Railhead. If you get a solid Pen, then you're looking at blowing up most BWs on a 3+ (AP1 Railhead and Open Topped transport)

When my Orks have fought Tau, the meganobz have consistently done pretty well... By which I mean survived a few rounds of shooting.

Unfortunately, the Tau general decided the wisest course of action was just to destroy everything else instead, and just dance away from the nobz.

Remember your markerlights. Whether it's denying my KFF saves, or making fire warrior volleys practically autohit, MLs are the bane of my existence.

If you want to build a Tau list that does well against Orks you'll need a few things:

Codex Tau
A dart
A blindfold
A photocopier
Some blutac

Photo copy the army list pages of the Tau codex and blutac them to the wall. Blindfold yourself and throw the dart into the wall. Whatever it lands on add it to your army list. Repeat until you've spent all your points.

Comedy aside Ion Riptides ruin meganobz. Missile pod crisis ruin Battle wagons. Fusion crisis suits ruin battle wagons. Everything in the codex ruins boys and markerlight strip Amy cover benefits they have.

Just make sure to start well away from them Boyz and their many many cc attacks. Extremely bad luck at overwatch killed my Fire Warriors in a fell swoop of green Furious Charges.

Never again, I say. Next time the greater good will prevail against Gork and Mork.

Did you remember 15" rapid-fire?

Did you remember supporting fire?

Did you remember photon grenades?

With Orks and Tau striking at the same time (Tau striking first if they are behind cover - I dont think Boyz come with grenades?) the Boyz should only have twice as many attacks as the Tau, and hit better (3+ as opposed to 4+) and wound better (4+ as oppsed to 5+) but have to get past their armor save of 4+ while the Tau damage can only be mitigated on a 6+ by the Orks. And even if the Tau fall back, the chances of being swept aren't that great due to both combatants having the same initiative - and if the Tau successfully disengage, all they need to do is rally next turn and the rapid-fire-overwatch-supporting-fire ordeal can begin again. A Boyz squad weakened by rapid-fire, overwatch, supporting fire and then having its charge bonuses taken away should be manageable.
