Also, what is the general lore of them?

Yes I know this can be looked up in the lexicanum but I appreciate varied opinions more.

In theory. Anything the Ad Mech have under their command in terms of weapons can be a part of the Skitarii (everything BUT THE TITANS and their support staff and crew).

(also Skitarius is Skitarii in singular form supposedly)

So they are very well equipped. from LR battle tanks to Baneblades and everything in between (except Land Raiders. those are SM exclusive)

individual skitarii foot troops vary in weapons and armor by rank.
majority are the lowest rank and essentially cybernetic IG with a lasgun and emotional supressors and perhaps a few other bitz.

the higher ones are giant armored beasts somewhere in-between Storm Troopers and Space Marines. Others can go further and be more imposing then Space Marines but it depends on who builds them.

They are extreamly varied. Once again it comes down to whoever builds them. They could be Gene-altered humans with cybernetics or be almost fully cybernetic individuals with very little humanity left and anything else.

They can be equated to a very heavily equipped IG (hence they are called Tech-Guard by some).

There doesn't seem to be much artwork of Skitarii, or at least not much which makes it clear which figures shown are actually Skitarii and which are militant tech-priests, etc.

Their general look seems to be fairly similar to mechanicus tech-priests. They usually seem to hide themselves in large hooded robes, with their faces covered by masks with lots of tubes and lenses. Weapons which are built in to their bionic arms seem to be quite common, usually bulky energy projectors.

Their armour generally seems to be significantly better than an imperial guardsman's flak armour. Most of them seem to have a combination of carapace armour and cybernetic plating.

I'd say that an average Skitarii trooper is probably somewhere between a guardsman and a space marine scout or stormtrooper in combat capabilities.

However, there are 'elite' units which are much, much more frightening. Praetorians and Herakli are more like full space marines or even terminators.

Seeing as that the Adeptus Mechanicus has all more cool toys than anyone else in the IoM, I would guess that the Skitarii are significantly better equipped than the IG.

Taken from the Dark Heresy RPG, these are an alternate rank (the system the game uses) for guardsmen. They are basically your Skitarii in the system.

I had a look on google images and the skitarii looked to be like IG veterans with bionics.

They are very heavy infantry. I get the sense that they are better in a firefight than IG but that they are generally more ponderous so have a hard time exploiting opportunities on the battlefield.

My interpretation of the fluff is that each regiment is recruited, trained, and equipped in wildly varying ways depending on world, commander, Titan Legio, et cetera. Just like the Guard, except with even more variance because of varying levels of augmentation and equipment.

This allows me to reconcile the barbaric, cyber-enhanced, snarling, implant-weapon-armed hulks from the Orestean Forge World supporting Legio Tempestus and Legio Invictus with the Guard-like, chemically-enhanced (but not really cybernetic) bodyguard of Archmagos Saphentis on Chaeronia.

The Myrmidons, however, are incredible. All the fluff I have read on them is just amazing.

It also depends on the Ordo to which the Skitarii in question belong - the Ordo Reductor, for example, favours Thallaxii style Skitarii.

It's worth checking out the Horus Heresy books from Forge World. They have army lists in them.
