Can you find a news article or any other kind of article (preferably the latter) stating that we have worse coke than everywhere else? Or is this thread going to be worked purely off your tastebuds.

I can confirm this. Dr. Pepper also. Some drinks have a lot of carbonation, so it's not an across the board thing.

Purely off my tastebuds, yes. This is supposed to be an opinion based thing, whether you think Aus coke should be less carbonated, rather than a comparison.

Ah right. Well in that case I can't remember it tasting any different in Asia, Europe or NZ. So I guess I'll vote no?

Just having come back from Taiwan yesterday, I'll also add I didn't notice a huge difference (not that I drink much coke over here, however, as I tend to drink diet coke or pepsi max), so maybe it's just a Japanese thing. When I was in PNG, I did notice the Coke they had there was waaaay sweeter than ours, almost tasting like it was a little concentrated, but I can't say I noticed the carbonation levels.

That said, there's an easy way to reduce the amount of carbonation if you want, open the drink and then... leave it for 5 minutes. Tap the sides occasionally if you want. Add some mentos to speed up the process if you want.

Also, because of the way carbonation is lost from even sealed drinks over time and during transit (due to bumping and movement), lower carbonation might lead to a higher chance of getting a flat-ish drink in the end.

I usually give my Dr. Pepper a quick shake and then a careful open when I get it. I do find it to have a hair too much versus other fizzy drinks.

There is a definite difference between different countries factories?distilleries?alchmists?. There usually isn't much variation but it is noticable, for example Polish coke is very good and Afghan coke is very poor, IMO at least.

Regional differences abound in drinks.

For example, Americans usually have to deal with high fructose corn syrup for the principle sugar ingredient in Coca-Cola.

Mexican bottlers tend to use real sugar cane and because of this, it is becoming more visible as a viable alternative to domestic Cola suppliers.

In essence, its like a Coca-Cola Civil War.

I t hink I've heard in the past that the US has old-coke and the rest of the world has New Coke.

Any input?

As someone that used to work for living hell called the coca-cola company, I can tell you that they strive very hard to keep things consistent. But with the different bottlers, in different areas of the world, there can be a taste difference which is mostly related to the quality of the water.

Coke is 95+% water.

The carbonation content is closely controlled, and shouldn't vary much at all by region.

As to the difference in taste between HFCS and cane sugar....I really don't know. I was told that there is no significant difference. I guess maybe if you have a sensitive pallet maybe you could taste a difference.

I live in corn country, and have been told all my life that nutritionally speaking, they're the same. But taste-wise, there's a big difference. Cane sugar almost tastes crisper than HFCS. Don't get me wrong, I love both, but I can definitely taste the difference.

If you compare a smaller soda company that uses only cane sugar, like Jones, to a HFCS counterpart, the cane sugar one almost always tastes better. Hell, even real sugar Mountain Dew actually tastes good enough to be able to drink one of, unlike that syrup in a can that is HFCS Mountain Dew.

Companies will change the formula of a drink based on the market. Or sometimes the entire name.

Maybe they figured out that Aussies as a whole like a fizzier soda.

Mexican Coke uses sugar vs HFCS, so it is much coveted where available here. Additionally there is seasonal Kosher Coke which uses real sugar.

I myself cannot taste the difference but since I have a very poor sense of smell that's to be expected I think. I believe other people when they say that they can.

Mexican Coke is better as it's not as mouth popping sweet as HFCS. For regular Coke, I usually like the ice to "bake" for a bit to dilute it.

As for the carbonation... I fething love it.

Coke is another name for "battery acid".

Not sure about the battery acid thing ... but the State Troopers here use it to help remove blood from the roads after a really bad collision. I have used it to help get grease out of my jeans that get filthy with grease at work.

True story on a side note: I have used a can of Coke to get grease out of Jeans for over 20 years and when my first fiancée moved in she thought she would do me a favour and do my laundry once. She asked what she should do and I told her to put the Tide in the machine, then the jeans, and finally the can of Coke. I had just finished a 27 hour shift and was rather tired. I got my shower and she started the load. While I was drying off I heard this awful racket downstairs. I go down to investigate and here ... she put an UNOPENED can of Coke in the washer. That relationship did not last long after that. Rocking body but she was dumb as a box of rocks.

Now, we like big books. (And we cannot lie. You other readers can’t deny, a book flops open with an itty-bitty font, and a map that’s in your face, you get—sorry! Sorry!)

Pepsi?? Dammit lad, Pepsi is the tool of the devil. The reason I don't drink coke is because it was destroying my teeth. And I like my teeth.
Also, Vanilla coke is best coke.

While I can't compare Aussie coke to American coke but I can compare our coke to other American soft drinks. We have a chain of American lolly stores over here that imports and sells a lot of the sugary crap you lot can buy in the States. It also sells soft drinks like Dr. Pepper, A&W Root Beer (which may just be the tastiest damn thing ever) and other horrible fizzy concoctions. I've always noticed that American soft drinks are substantially flatter, for lack of a better term, then our own. These stores do sell coke too, I've just never bothered to buy one since I figured it'd be the same as ours. I'll pick up a can next time I go past and find out.

Coke is great for removing blood. It's also good for cleaning coins and such.
