Hello dakka and you may remember me from my earlier post which asked about old games on steam. Anyway I would like to know do you have any recommendations for a rts games on steam. I prefer the games to be less than 10 euros and in terms of strategy I also prefer more slower paced games like victoria 2. Thanks for your answers.

Press the RTS tab in the steam store and do a lowest price search. People can't really know what you preferences in rts are.
Plus no acces to my steam library atm.

Thanks for your answer. I have already tried that so I would like to hear do the dakkanauts have recommendations on games they have tried.

Age of empires 2 would be a nice start. I had so much fun with it back in the day and it looks like they are even adding new expansion packs.

Stronghold Crusader, Compnay of Heroes, Dawn of War, World in Conflict, Supreme Commander and Men of War are all under £10 and are all at least decent RTS games.
If you want a good slow strategy game then either Crusader Kings 2 or Europa Universalis IV would be my current choice. EUIV is currently at half price on GMG http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/gb/en/pc/games/strategy/europa-universalis-iv/

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

I second Dawn of War and Company of Heroes.
While technically a TBS, I'd recommend Civ V as a great strategy game, although it doesn't drop that low of a price even in sales unfortunately.

Knights of Honour!
Think of it a bit like a fully real time version of one of the Total War games. You play over the European map in real time, managing each region that you control. However you've also got armies to move around the map; when they encounter rebels or opposing armies you can either have the AI fight for you or you can go into an RTS battle mode with the army yourself (you can even have the game either continue to run real time on the main map whilst you fight or have it pause - pause is the default)).
In addition your number of armies is restricted by the pool of leaders you have. This pool is also split with merchants, spies, captured lords (for ransom) and others. As a result building a big empire can be a big challenge because you've always got that limit ontop. It means you don't nessessarily see that steamroller stage in the game where you've just out-scaled your opponents (because by the point that you have a large empire you might well be finding it harder to defend and hold onto).
Mix in some diplomacy and inheritance aspects for some added spice in the game.
It's a fun title and whilst not a true RTS in the traditional sense it is a good game; I'd also class it as fairly casual and quite laid back in its feel as you play.

Age of Empires II - HD edition
Its a slow-paced RTS, and it's technically retro (they have just done some bug fixes and revamped the game textures)

Wargame: AirLand Battle Company of Heroes 1 and 2 Dawn of War series My recommendations. Sometimes these go on sale for less than ten, so you'll just have to watch.

I have wasted so much time on Sins, just establishing trade routes and building up planetary defenses and mining operations.
Get SoaSE: Rebellion, though, as its the latest in the series and added a lot to the original game.

Let's be honest crusader king and EU really aren't RTS games, those are grand strategy/management with even a slight hint of RPG in crusader kings.

The OP's example game was Victoria 2, I would hardly describe that as an RTS.

Did you really mean RTS? Or do you just mean strategy games in general?
If for reals on RTS then plus 1 on the AOE II HD and DoW stuff... I've had loads of fun with DoW: Dark Crusade, in fact.
If just Strategy games in general... how about Unity of Command? or Warlock?

Fair point, never played Victoria so I assumed when he said RTS he meant an RTS.

I on the other hand think its far worse than the original and not even worth the install.

I've spent so much time just fighting people on that damned game.
Probably one of the longest matches in a single game I have ever played.

That's more your problem than anything The game has a huge variety of strategies and maps, and it has only become more and more balanced as time goes on. I think I'm actually enjoying it more than CoH1.

Supreme Commander is great, as is Dawn of War. In both cases the sequels were less so, in my opinion.

Not so much worse as different. DoW2 is spectacularly more enjoyable to me than DoW1 in many ways, for example. SupCom2 is... just so radically different I hesitate to say one or the other is better. I will say I enjoyed SupCom1 more.
