Subject: Baron Von Strucker announced for Avengers: Age of Ultron
The King Kong and Stalingrad actor—who’s perhaps best known for playing Van Helsing on NBC’s Dracula—has signed a multi-movie deal to play Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker, the former Nazi officer, HYDRA leader, and producer of the world’s evilest jams and jellies.

Finally, a HYDRA revival. The world has been waiting for this, even if they didn't know it. With any luck, it will also tie into Agents of Shields at some point.
I just hope it doesn't overshadow Ultron's own part in the movie (and if they have HYDRA create Ultron, I may have to kill something).

What if Hank Pym secretly works for Hydra and the post credits scene is him unveiling Ultron to them?

Hmm, that would be the best way if they were to go down that route, but really, I'd prefer them to just stick to the comics as close as possible. I mean, 'man builds bot, bot goes mental, bot kills stuff' is hardly the most complicated plot to follow.
What I do wonder is if they will have Pym as Ultron's creator actually appear in the film, or whether they will just save him for the subsequent Ant-man movie and just mention him. Given the casting of both Pym and Lang, it's perhaps less likely, but I doubt we'll be seeing Pym as Ant-man in Avengers 2, which I had suspected they'd do.

Agents of SHIELD actually dropped a Hydra reference last night.
Just sayin'.

That's awesome, then, I've been waiting for that all series. I can't wait for it to be back on in the UK, but I think we have to wait until March.
@HBMC: I thought Ant-Man was scheduled for after Avengers 2, not 3? Hence why I wonder if they will introduce Pym in A2 and maybe put in an Ant-Man easter egg or two.

I have not read them personally, but my understanding is that the modern Ant-Man is a huge jerk, so to speak - sort of a Hancock style figure. I really enjoyed the idea of Hancock if not the execution, so I'm vaguely excited about this. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

You still don't get to comment after liking Ang Lee's "Hulk". Back in the corner with you!!
Those that don't like Ang Lee's work but like Thor and "Ant Ant Ant" ( three internetz if you know where that comes from) can't really talk about anything related to movies.

The next Marvel one-shot, included on the DVD/Blu-ray release of Thor: The Dark World, is of course about Trevor Slattery, the poor actor who pretended to be the diabolical terrorist called the Mandarin. But now that he's been exposed and thrown in jail, Trevor learns he might still have some power.
Question: How fun would it be if Trevor actually found 10 magical rings — I have no idea where — and actually became the Mandarin? Think about it; the Mandarin is his claim to fame, and it's obvious he'd love to continue being in the spotlight — and I don't think a moral issue like "Should I or should I not commit acts of terrorism?" would stop him if he had the chance. That is to say, I think Trevor would play the Mandarin on his own recognizance if he had the chance — which means he would do the same evil deeds the Mandarin would do, albeit purely for fame — which also means he would, for all intents and purposes, be the Mandarin in real life.. All it would take is for him to find a source of power, and I'm pretty sure Marvel can figure something out. And if all these recent Dr. Strange movie rumblings mean the film is on its way, and we're adding straight up magic to the Marvel movie-verse, then this would be a fun way to tie Phase 2 and Phase 3 together. Just a thought.
The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all
We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

I also liked the Ang Lee' Hulk. I thought it made some bold stylistic choices that worked (and yes, some that didn't).
I know a lot of people were butthurt about the Mandarin in IM3. I really liked how they did it (while, yes, admitting I understand why people were butthurt) and I would be totally into any expansion of the character. Ben Kingsley 4 lyfe.

And seeing the number of people who actually LIKE Ang Lee movies, I'm considering hanging myself. The human race has officially failed. It was a good run, Earth. Let's get that ultimate tidal wave to push the restart button.
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

What's so special about the Baron besides a regenerative ability?
Why do you think he will be a worthy villain addition?
He is to HYDRA what Nick Fury is to SHIELD. Just going by the films he is the Modern Day leader of HYDRA whereas the Red Skull was the original leader. Him, being in it signals that HYDRA is still around in the modern day.

During their ongoing presentation to their investors, Disney’s CEO Bob Iger has just promised that the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier will feed into Avengers: Age of Ultron and “some facets” of Agents of SHIELD. Which facets? That’s not really the point. I think he was letting us know that the crossover will be partial, and to not expect Agents of SHIELD to suddenly turn into Captain America 2.5.
It’s become more and more obvious that the Avengers film will have to build on the events of Iron Man 3 and The Winter Soldier, perhaps less so the more self-contained The Dark World.
At the same time, it’s also obvious that the audience wants Agents of SHIELD to tie in with the movies more closely. It was recently promised that Sif will appear in the show, and that got a lot of folk excited. Iger was trying to engender the same kind of enthusiasm with his comments today, I’m sure.
Personally, I don’t know that SHIELD really does need to tie in with the movies. That’s just a superficial fix, I think. It needs to work on its own terms, at least in the mid and long terms.
I think the dwindling audience for SHIELD was precipitated by a misunderstanding in the larger audience: they wanted superheroes, whether or not they were original ones or not, and not a bunch of agency suits.
But had the show opened up with a series of consistently strong, rich, smart and well-structured episodes – and it did not – a graph of the show’s viewing figures would have looked a lot less tragic.
There's talk that the post credits scene in Cap 2 features " the twins", which is presumed to be a reference to Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch.
Which won't be at all confusing with one or both of those characters also appearing in the forthcoming X-man movie too.
We still don’t know who she is, but now we know who will be playing her. Variety reports Lost and The Hobbit star Evangeline Lilly is now in early talks to play the female lead in Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man.
We’ve already covered the many possibilities on just who this mysterious female lead may be, but it seems logical to assume she’ll be a love interest for Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang character, while maybe being connected in some way to Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym.
Also very interesting was this tidbit from THR‘s report on the same casting news:
It is unclear who Lilly will play but it is not intended to be a one-off appearance.
Of course, this could just mean she’ll show up for direct Ant-Man sequels, but it could just as well mean she’ll be showing up in other MCU movies, which means she’s probably not just a “girlfriend” character but someone more important. Janet Van Dyne aka The Wasp is an obvious guess but… How would fans feel about a Lang/Janet hook-up? And if we add that in with the rumor that she’s the daughter of the second male lead… Oh boy.
Ant-Man begins filming in April for a July 17, 2015 release.
