Fantasy Flight Games has announced Nemesis, the first expansion for their Relic board game set in the Warhammer 40K universe (see "FFG's 'Relic' Board Game"), for release in April.

Nemesis will introduce player-versus-player combat to the board game. It also allows players to take the roles of enemies to the Imperium (like Khorne Berserker, Eldar Exarch, Tyranid Broodlord, or Champion of Slaanesh), and introduces new wargear and relics.

The box will include six new character pieces (four nemesis pieces and two character pieces), four new scenario sheets and 140 cards. As an expansion, it requires the Relic base game to play. Relic is for 2 – 4 players, ages 14 and up, and plays in 2 – 3 hours. MSRP is set at $39.95.

Assuming the 4 'Nemesis pieces' are those listed Chaos/Xenos classes, what Imperial archetypes are currently missing? Something like a Grey Knight perhaps?

How quick does Relic play?

I know it's based off Talisman, and that can drag at times.

Barzam and some of my other family members are a harder sell on fantasy stuff, and are more easily coerced into playing board games when there's guns, skulls, and metal involved.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Doesn't take longer than 2 hours for my group, but we are experienced with Board games. That said, it's not that great of a game, being very random and repetitive.

Chaos has engulfed the far-flung Antian Sector. In its centre, the great Warp Rift pulses like a raw wound, drawing the dark attentions of powerful new foes, dreadful beings who even now circle the sector like predators stalking an injured beast of prey.

In this time of strife, can a divided Imperium survive against so many foes––or will the sector run red with the blood of the faithful while the great works of mankind burn?

Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce Nemesis, an expansion for the Relic board game. As the war in the warp-rift torn Antian Sector rages on, deadly new threats to the Imperium converge, drawn by the dark powers of Chaos. These new Nemeses are eager to carve out a place for themselves, dislodge the Imperium’s hold on the sector, and crush the Emperor’s agents once and for all.

Player Versus Player

For the first time, Nemesis introduces player versus player combat in an optional new Enemies of the Imperium game mode. Enemies of the Imperium allows up to two players to play as Nemeses instead of characters, such as a World Eaters Beserker, or a Eldar Dire Avenger.

Nemesis players work to gain infamy by defeating agents of the Imperium, and resolving engagements throughout the Sector. As each side vies for control of the Antian Sector, Nemesis players and Imperium characters can clash in battle. By gaining enough infamy, Nemesis players can prevent the Imperium from resolving the scenario in the Inner Tier, delivering a mighty blow to the Imperium’s presence in the Antian Sector and winning the game.

The Enemies of the Imperium game mode isn’t the only way players can oppose each other. The Nemesis expansion also adds player versus player combat through a standalone Apostates versus Devotee mechanic. Nemesis introduces new Apostate wargear, proscribed technology created by enemies of the Imperium. Characters who choose to try to use these weapons become Apostates, subject to the prosecution of other, more puritanical, Devotee characters.

New Playable Characters

Meanwhile, two new playable Imperium characters make their way to the Antian Sector: an Eversor Assassin and a Storm Trooper Sergeant. Eager to push back the encroaching Chaos in the Emperor’s name, these two new characters will battle their way throughout the sector, facing deadly new enemies and gathering an arsenal of new wargear.

Nemesis also allows your group to add up to two more players to Relic for epic, six-player games, and four new scenarios add even more dangerous and deadly twists to Relic than ever before.

New Threats to the Antian Sector

Relic: Nemesis is scheduled to arrive in the second quarter of 2014. Whether you’re bent on the destruction of the Imperium, or seek to bring the Emperor’s light to the Antian Sector, Relic: Nemesis is a must-have for enhancing your Relic experience.

For more information, visit the Nemesis website, and keep checking back for more news and previews for Relic: Nemesis.

The artwork might give some clues as to the other characters.

Looking forward to this. I am excited but concerned about six player games. I am hoping for alternative missions that could get done in less that 3 hours.

Good point, I've only played mine twice...and we had to quit early both games because it just took too dang long. I doubt we will be trying out the 5-6 player mode. But the Talisman board game rules have always made for a really long game.

Nemesis, an expansion for Relic is now available at your local retailer and through our webstore.

Along with four new scenarios, new threat cards, and new wargear to tempt even the most puritanical agents of the Imperium, the Nemesis expansion also adds up to two more players to Relic for epic, six-player games and the Enemies of the Imperium game mode, which allows up to two players to take on the role of a Nemesis, seeking to thwart the Imperium’s agents at every turn.

Enemies of the Imperium

In our first preview, developer Alex Davy previewed the Enemies of the Imperium game mode. This mode adds a sort of doomsday clock to the Relic experience, and the game feels more like a race than ever. With a Nemesis in play, the defenders of humanity can no longer afford to be complacent. Once a Nemesis reaches 25 infamy, the game is over, the Nemesis player wins, and a grievous blow is dealt to the Imperium of Man.

Our second preview focused on two of the playable Nemeses introduced in this expansion, Moarn Goreheart and Specimen X. We also showcased the Master Collector Scenario, which requires even the most devout player characters to become Apostate in order to become victorious.

With the Apostate versus Devotee mechanic introduced in Nemesis, players who become Apostate will become vulnerable not just to attacks by Nemeses on the game board, but by other, more devout players as well.

Purchase Your Copy Today!

After reading our past previews, head to your local retailer or to our webstore to purchase your copy of Relic: Nemesis today! Then, wage war on the Imperium as a Nemesis, or defend the Antian Sector in the name of the Emperor. Keep checking back for more news and information related to Relic.

So keen on this. Convincing the dude in our group who owns the base to get it and give me khorne constantly sounds like a good mission.

3 person game with this went ok. Played the beserker against sister and assassin. Sister was a pain in the ass but overall was a fun game. Expansion adds a lot of replay value into the mix, started feeling repetitive for a while there after a few games before.

Slightly off topic, but still Relic related ... Is it cos there is only two of us playing or is there a point to the cards that allow you to "take a sneak peek" at the top card of a Threat deck?
