Alright, with Combined Army getting some more attention lately I've been looking at the again as a potential collection. I've looked at Shasvastii, I've looked at Morats, and I keep getting bored with what's available. Then it hit me that I stopped looking at Vanilla Combined. I read a comment on the official boards about how vanilla Combined is probably the strongest vanilla list, with a lot of answers to what sectorials can do. So I went down the rabbit hole. And man were they right.
An ARM 3 MI Lt with G:Mnemonica, Strategos L2, CH: Mimetism, NWI for 58pts? And a plasma rifle because why not? A super jumping HMG with MSV2? TO Camo HI with a Monofilament CCW and plasma rifle? The list is packed with hurt, so I've started looking at a potential list, trying to avoid focusing on Shasvastii and Morats but also not avoiding them entirely. I want a mixed list, with Morats, Shasvastii, Exrah and EI constructs. So what I'm looking at:
The problem is SWC. The lists I've put together so far have had a lot of really killy models in them, but I sit at around 2/3 SWC. Is this common for Combined Army? The main 3 units I want to include are a Skiavoros, Anathematic and an Exrah Vector Operator HMG. Those 3 make up about 200pts themselves and only 1.5 SWC, which is pretty crazy for what they bring. Packing the rest with specialists and cheerleaders doesn't help on the SWC front either.

If you start giving these nice little sepsiptors to your EIs, you´ll have a lot of SWC used in the list...

I always have problems filling vanilla Combined lists without totally getting over 6SWCs...all theese nice little things they got. And welcome to the dark side, Combined is awesome!

Yes the standard combined list looks like a lot of fun - not least because it lets you use the wonderful giant cockroach that is the Caskuda!
I wonder if their list is just one of those that tends to come off lightly with SWC pts - I've found the same thing with the Yu Jing Japanese Sectorial, I ended up getting wound into stitches trying to use the full 6 SWC. But in the end I just tried out with lower SWC and it seemed to work out OK, and certainly didn't feel that I was lacking anything (well, no more than usual with the Jap sectorial! ) Maybe CA would turn out the same in this regard?

The list I was looking at was:
Skiavro Lt
Anathematic Hacker
Vector Operator HMG
Morat Vanguard FO
Morat Vanguard FO
Shasvastii Haiduk Multi Sniper
Obsidon Mechanoid
Slave Drone
Ikadron Batroid
Imetron
Imetron
Gives me a badass Lt that I don't have to be super worried about dying, a specialist Anathematic so he can sidle up to objectives if needed. A fast super jumping decently tough HMG, a couple of specialists, a badass sniper, a doctor and some cheerleaders.
Comes to 297/3.5 which feels lighter on SWC than it should. And I'm not sure about the Obsidon - 2 models have NWI and the Exrah explodes when he takes a hit, and 2 more are just AI beacons. I could probably get something more useful in there.
My only real caveat is I want to avoid old Morats. The old sculpts put me off CA originally

A specialist Anathematic sounds like a fantastic idea!
Of course, you will miss out on some of the benefits of link teams and such, but, yeah, this is a very interesting idea...

The main thing that put me off the sectorials is the lack of 'interesting' CA stuff. They're interesting as part of the overall Combined Army, but when run as pure Shasvastii or Morat it just tends to get samey to me, plus it loses some of my favorite CA models like the EI constructs and Exrah.
Can't wait to see what happens with the EI sectorial though. EI vs Aleph should be awesome.

Only if the repeater is called Coma. As of now it the only way and only on a Morat so you need to take atleast one enemy out of the game. Before you can use Coma.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor. |

I rejiggered my list to drop the Mechanoid, bring in a Morat hacker and change the Anathematic to use the dirtiest of tricks, a sepsitor. I like the list a lot more now, very offensive.

The only Morat with Coma are Daturazi Witch Soldiers. If you want to use Coma you´ll have to use them. But IMO they are awesome, giving you Mimetism, Martial Arts and Smoke for 14 points in their cheapest version. I love these guys using them almost every game. They are very nice with the "frog" a vector operator with HMG, too.

Post that list please - I'd be interested in seeing it!

How so? Can you do into detail on that?
Thanks!

On Coma? http://infinitythegame.wikispot.org/coma
Short version, get the Daturazi to take something down, then it can fall over and act a a Sepsitor extender for the rest of the turn.
For the Vector combo, Daturazi throws smoke. Vector Operator jumps up in the smoke with Super Jump (usually it's behind a building or similar) and fires from inside the smoke with no penalty due to having MSV2.
Everyone who survives gets to ARO but with -6 for shooting back through smoke, usually -3 for cover, -3 for Mimetism and then range bands. Generally, most troops wont be able to fire back at all unless in +3 range.

The HMG Vector Operator is the single most cost effective Rambo unit in the game. There's a very good reason CA only can get one... Automatically Appended Next Post: The HMG Vector Operator is the single most cost effective Rambo unit in the game. There's a very good reason CA only can get one...
