Hey everyone, couldn't find a clear answer on this, but I'm sure its been discussed.

When a codex or rulebook refers to a "friendly" does it mean it refers to a unit from the same codex? Or the same detachment? Or can it also be a unit in one of your allied detachments or even allied formation?

When playing 2 v 2 does friendly also mean those of your ally? Or only those in your army (as per the above question)? Or should this be houseruled?

Units from the same codex are considered friendly. For allies, it depends on their level of alliance, see page 112.

Good question... The BRB always refers to "friendly" and "enemy" units, therefore one might deduce that anything that isn't a unit controlled by your opponent is therefore a friendly unit. The allies-matrix still applies, though.

Are you using a 5th ed codex? If so, you should check the FAQ. I know with the BA codex that the FAQ changed a lot of the line that include "friendly unit" to say "friendly unit from the BA codex".

Obviously, the 5th ed codicies were written before allies were introduced.
