....and bought it, know quite knowing what version of Predator it was, but only that is was 20 bucks including shipping. Anyone know what edition this is?

I don't know what to think; it's resin, old and appears to be pretty small. Would this be table legal since it seems to be smaller than the regular, modern predator?

That's an old 2nd pred, with the old RT style Rhino chasis. Resin, not plastic? Old FW version?

If its resin (when the original isnt) then maybe its a recast. Not your fault if it is so dont worry, but may explain why its resin.

It looks like it's on the chassis of the rhino on this blog page: http://nevernesshobby.blogspot.com/2011/11/doctors-dark-angels-part-2.html

Edit: Yup, that's the 2nd edition predator turret.

Huh. Second edition is pretty damn old.

So would this be playable on tabletop (friendly/tourney games) or should I leave it in storage as it's an old resin model and is fragile?

100% playable... and quite cool I might add. Use away.

The main body should be plastic. The sponsons and turret would be metal. I think it's supposed to be a Predator Destructor, but I'm not sure. It looks like someone tried to mod it into an Annihilator but the Annihilator has a bubble turret.

Hah, it'll be a blast from the past. Well thanks for your help, guys. Nice to know the old models are still fieldable.

Cheers, here's to hoping it thrashes some sense into the newer vehicle models my opponents field. :]

Thats an old predator destructor that someone tried to convert to an annihilator.

I have 2 of them. I would know that turret anywhere. If i remember correctly, the model came out in early 3rd. Previous to that was the original all plastic turret. They changed the look with the metal bitz much later on.

Might be a recast if its resin. The original was a plastic rhino chassis with lots of metal add ons.

Pretty sure it was mid 2nd edition. Shortly before that annihilator that's posted above. I'd need to check when I get home but I think there might have been one pictured in the 2nd ed Angels of Death Codex. It certainly came out around that time, and the studio one was painted in Dark Angels colours.

Because I was curious....

April 1996. It didn't appear in Codex: angels of death, which had come out a a couple of months previously. The term gets banded around a lot, but (in my honest opinion) vintage WD, this....

It came out in 2nd edition, sort of towards the end of the run. They just used the old rhino chassis and put a metal turret and two metal sponson in the box, style didn't match the rhino chassis at all unfortunately.

I don't think we really had variant names of the tanks back then, you could pretty much mix and match the different turrets with the sponson, so long as both sponson were the same. I do remember the SM dreadnoughts had specific names, so maybe I am wrong on that. But the turret on your is supposed to be the autocannon with lascannon sponsons.

The predator was just called a predator, the annihilator was called a predator annihilator though.

The dreadnoughts of that time only had the names;

Space marine dreadnought (assault cannon, powerfist)
Blood Angels dreadnought (multimelta, powerfist)
Dark Angels dreadnought (tl Lascannons, missile launcher)
...and Bjorn.

Or, at least, there was a space wolves dreadnought sarcophagus, pretty sure it was a Bjorn kit but can't find the actual WD at the moment.

Here's my own vintage Predator for comparison. As others have already said, it was released circa 1995. Sponsons, turret and top panel were metal.

Spoiler:

The resin bits are strange, though. I doubt anyone would take the time and effort to clone such an old kit.

Yeah, that's what gets me also. The model has some wavyness to it, but it would be either age or from the previous owner stripping its paint. As another user mentioned, could it be a Forgeworld model? All in all it's an interesting piece and I can't wait to pair it up with five other, newer Preds.

Very nice. Did you put those heavy bolters on yourself? I seem to remember that predator only came with (the biggest) lascannons (ever)? Could be wrong, it was a long time ago.

Unfortunately not, the storm bolter came with the model, maybe it was kitbashed as it seems to be a conversion of sorts. I will say the Marine on the gun is far too large for the vehicle, a testament to the poor scaling of 90s 40K tanks.

The old kits are a pleasure to look at, with those iconic colour schemes that just would not work in a modern GW release nowadays.

Still, I was never that much of a fan of that forward positioned turret, the old school razorback and whirlwind are far more aesthetically pleasing in my books.
