40k scale is a bit of a weird mix between 1:48 and 1:35. depending on whatt you are trying to achieve it might be best to get a model fo a big tank at 1:48 scale or a smaller tank at 1:35 scale. Would the Tiger be the basis for a looted wagon, a trukk, a battlewagon, or something grander?

I would go with 1:48 as well.
I found that 1:56 WW2 tanks (eg from Warlord Games) just look too small.
They are at the right scale but GW models are over-sized, on bases & WW2 vehicles are actually quite small.

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!! |

Hmm I had never thought of something grander, I suppose your right.
If I were to loot a tiger 1 I suppose it would probably have to be near baneblade size chassis wise.
Details such as hatches aand such I am not too bothered about as I convert hatchs out of plasticard if needed, I would
be more worried about track and wheel assembly looking to scale more than anything

Best bet is usually to start with a 1:35 model and cut out sections to make it shorter and maybe a little less wide.

1/35th scale Tanks I've found only work as Russes if they are the smallest of the Light Tanks.
Such as:
Vk1602 Leopard
M22 Locust
Pz1 Ausf F
Universal Carrier (Bren Gun Carrier)
T-80 Light Tank
Stuart Tank
and a few others.
the larger and heavier they get the more they get into Malcador, Macharius and Baneblade in size. (Or in the case of orks, looted wagon, battle wagon, battlefortress, etc)
Such as a Tiger being just large enough to be a macharius (if a bit short lengthwise I think). a E-100 or Maus Super Heavy Tank are massive and are Baneblade sized (if thin width wise, fixed with mods and sponsons.)
1/48th scale works to bring Medium and smaller heavy tanks down, but the scale seems off to me (tiny hatchs, piddly gun barrels, etc) so everything gets thrown off.
I had at one point a chart that showed the conversion of the model scale to the real thing. I can't find it.
