So this is my idea based off the "casualties" sold by games workshop. This is my idea:
This is a relic map with a twist, best played with an Imperium force against a Xenos one. This is how it works:
It's like a normal relic match but with a twist
The game is called "the dying marine"
The dying marine model from casualties is set in the middle, he is the relic. The imperium want to rescue him, the Xenos want to interrogate/eat him.
The marine will fire snap shots whenever the Xenos creatures come in range, and hit with weapon skill 1 when he is being carried off. The aim is to get two soldiers minimum to the marine, these are the bearers and cannot shoot whilst he is being carried.
Otherwise this is a normal relic mission
What do you think?

Seems pretty inconsequential.
It doesn't really change how the mission functions. It is one more snap shot or WS1 swing without any changes. Kind of a big 'so what'.
That said, go for it, it isn't earth-shattering, but if you're having fun, go with it.

So the relic shoots a bolt pistol at BS1 once in a while. That's not really gonna change much. If you wanted to change it up you could have him wander around with a scatter die every turn or something, then his positioning might affect the game.

And every turnon the roll of a 6 his microfusion plant in his backpack loses containment . Large blast, melta rules, only a techmarine or squad sargeant with the right bit of kit can stabilize the plant

I like it. Unlikely to be a gamechanger, but adds a bit of fluff'n'spice. Plus the time that ws1 combat knife takes out a berzerker will be enjoyable all round.

I created a special mission for me and my buddy on the Battle of Blackreach.
(If you have access to the bug book...READ THIS STORY)
Basically he played daemons and I played Tyranids...5 objectives and the objectives all start in the middle of the board and move d6" inches away from the nearest unit.
Basically the objectives represented people running away from either side. And both predators are fighting for resources.
If you grabbed the humans...by being in base contact...don't need to wait for a turn like the relic...you'd have to test for their escape at the beginning of each movement phase...on a 6 they get away...roll a d6 and scatter them that far from the edge of your unit.
It was a blast.

Not supposed to be revolutionary, just an idea, using a D6 and scatter would make it more fun. You could flip a coin on "hit" and whoever one could move him wherever

Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

Here's something I've just dug up from an old White Dwarf (298). Mission: Extraction Victory Conditions: If the VIP can be extracted from the Defender's board edge, he claims a Major victory, if the Attacker can take the VIP off their board edge, Major Victory. Minor victory to whichever side has the VIP at the end of the game. If the VIP is killed by shooting, then the game is a draw. The VIP: a HQ unit from the defender army that is automatically set to 1 wound. He is armed with a Bolt Pistol and Power Sword (or racial equivalent) and a 4+ save. He comes at no cost to the defender, and deploys in the centre of the board. Bodyguard Squad: A troops unit of less than 100 points from the Defender army. They may not exceed 10 men, and may take upgrades so long as the squad costs less than 100 points in total. This unit comes at no cost, and deploy with the VIP. Capture: The VIP starts under control of the Defender, and can move as normal. For the attacker to capture the VIP, a squad must defeat him in combat. If the target or unit is wiped out or falls back, then the VIP is treated as an IC with no attacks under the control of the Attacker. Should he be freed from the squad in any way (Most likely they fall back or are wiped out), he reverts to control of the Defender. Hope that gives you some ideas (I've modified and updated it slightly) for a Rescue mission scenario.

Sure has. I reckon this would happen: every round the marine rolls a D3 to see how far he can go,mclawing his way towards imperium lines. He has a single guardian, most likely a wolf/bear etc that will defend him whilst he shoots. The animal will always move towards Xenos lines, rolling 2 D3 to see how far he moves. On a score of double one he "shies" moving a D6 back towards the dying marine. The animal can either be killed by the Xenos, but if an space marine scout, IG guardsman etc moves within 3 inches he can then control it.
Like?

I like the idea, but I do think the random movement might not work too well. Especially with the guardian and wounded guy moving in opposite directions (kind of defeats the purpose). The way I'd do it is just to have the wounded marine as a character under control of the IOM player, and use the rules for subduing him as per my last post.
I suppose it really depends on what you want. If you just want a slightly modified Relic mission, then your idea is perfectly workable, but if you're looking for something a little more distinct, a D3" move and a single animal aren't going to be enough of a game-changer to really mix it up/

Indeed. Let us know how it goes as and when you give it a shot. More variety in missions is always good.
