1 HQ: 125 points
Commander
- 1 Flamer
- C&C Node
- MSSS
2 Troops: 188 points
6 Firewarriors
6 Firewarriors
+ Devilfish with 2 Gun Drones
1 Elites: 185 points
XV104 Riptide
- twin-linked Fusion blasters
- Ion Accelerator
Total : 498 points
(2 scoring units)
Strategy:
The 6 FWs on foot guard the home objective, while the others start the game aboard the Devilfish and go to claim or contest other objectives.
The Buffmander and the Riptide either start the game on the table, or if the opponent has brought a battle tank, will deep strike to make use of the 'tide's TL- FB. Either way, the Buffmander allows the Iontide's pie plate to re-roll if it scatters off, and it also ignores cover saves. The flamer is there just in case.
Thoughts?

I think the VRT would serve better than the Flamer, or at least the Onager Gauntlet. Also get the Neuroweb System Jammer with your remaining points. Better to have it than not, especially if deep striking.
I'd also recommend the HBC as opposed to the IA at a low point game. To me it just seems a bit more versatile, especially against fliers even if it's snap firing.
Just my two cents. Looks good regardless.

Youre right I'm absolutely powerless against flyers. Especially if an equally TFG decides to field a Space Marine list with a Stormraven.
But on the other hand I need that AP2 pie plate to wipe MEQ off the board - something a fish and 12 firewarriors simply wont be able to do.

I really don't see how it's that bad honestly. In my 500 lists, I generally bring more targets than a single Riptide can handle.
Even assuming he goes first and takes down my biggest unit in the game turn one, I have enough to take down a single devilfish and two min squads of Firewarriors within a turn or two at the most. From then on it's hiding Troops out of LOS on objectives spread far enough apart that the Riptide will never be able to stop me.
I actually went against that this last weekend. 500 point doubles game and I saw a Wraithknight and a Riptide in the opposing list. The Riptide kept Nova charging and put a few wounds on him, then we helped him on his way after the other targets were clear. Wraithknight only got a single wound on him and was the last unit on the table. We only put a wound on it for half it's cost in Victory points really.
I routinely see the Bike Chapter Master with Shield Eternal at 500 point games and this list wouldn't really even give him a speed bump. Same thing goes for a FMC. Or a Stormraven, Vendetta, Stormtalon, and so on. Deamons would really just laugh as they play the objective game and watch the Riptide try to shoot them off something.
500 point games are REALLY hard to make an abusive list, since you're often limiting yourself in some regard by taking an expensive unit. In this case you only have two Ld7 troops that only need to fail 2 wounds to take a morale check and a single AV12 skimmer. Honestly I'd dump the Devilfish and take a unit of 10 Kroot with a hound for the further objectives.

It's not bad, we're just pointing out that it's not called a Fun list. It would be fun if he had something like vespids and crootoxes and not a standart copy-paste buffmander+riptide list.

Does the command and control node actually allow you to re-roll scatter dice? I thought that was only twin-linked and C&CN is not twin-linked it's re-roll misses.
I'd say the weakness to this list is definitely scoring units. Pretty easy to take down even with a devilfish. Maybe some outflanking kroot would be a better choice for the second troop unit?

The wording for blasts state that as long as you have the ability to reroll with a normal non-blast weapon you'd be allowed a reroll on scatter dice.

You need a shielded missile drone on that riptide in this 'fun list' if you want your buff mander to be able to ride with him. If you want my advice, drop the devilfish and get a stimulant injector and early warning override on that riptide, as well as that shielded missile drone. If you're going to be a dick and take a riptide at 500, you might as well do it right.

nope.jpg The restriction of ICs not being able to join MCs is only if these are "units that always consist of one model", which is cast aside by the Riptide having the option to take additional drones in its armylist entry - you dont actually have to buy them and form a unit so that an IC may join.
And while purchasing some form of AA seems vital, dropping the Devilfish will severely limit my capability to claim objectives and 2x T3 LD7 six men squads will evaporate without some form of transport to keep at least one alive.

You need to buy a shield drone to say that it does not always consist of a single model. This argument could be used to say that if the riptide lost his shielded missile drone, that he can still be joined because the unit does not always consist of one model. This argument allows an IC to join a single troop model, for example. If you buy only a single model, you are not allowed this benefit. Next argument, please. And devilfish are just awful. Get kroot if you want to move. Also please change the title of this thread. This list is very clearly WAAC, and you're a jerk if you're actually taking this to a fun game.

The majority of the internet disagrees with you. Just saying.

same argument applied to Tyranid MCs joining a unit of 1 Carnifex -> http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/335277.page
Until we get an FAQ, this wont be settled, and GW has been extremely lethargic at writing FAQs as of late *cough* 7th edition *cough*
The argument revolves around what GW meant when it wrote "units that always consist of one model" - did it mean unit on the battlefield, or unit in the codex entry? If former, then an IC can only join such units if they number more than 1 model. If latter, he can join them even if they only number 1 model simply because the option exists in the codex, which is what the majority of the internet is going with at the moment.

At 500 points I think the riptide is kinda going nuclear. The thing is tough to take out to began with. Having the limitations of 500 points, there isn't much wiggle room for some one to fit something to take the thing out with.
Aside from that it seems like a pretty good list. The only thing that comes to my mind is dropping the devilish for some pathfinders.

why would I need pathfinders at 500 points? Arent they a force multiplier, i.e. more useful is bigger points lists where you have more units on the table that can benefit from their markerlight spam?

Using power of the majority is a fallacy, just saying.
"10,000 people can't be wrong" does not mean something is not wrong.
And, devilish for a sky ray. So your riptide is excellent instead of merely a dick move.
