So, looking through the book and this first dataslate, I am trying to understand some things. I am working on a Manufactorum/Space Hulk board, and this is midly important to playing a fluffy match.

I can take as many different formations as possible, right?

Reason I ask, is I am trying to count up the amount of genestealers I can field in a list.

So your basic Double FOC + Slates is...

12 Genestealer Broods+5 Manufactorum Genestealer Broods+3 Broodlord's Hunting Pack
Which comes out to 100 Genestealers and 1 Broodlord Minumum, to 335 Genestealers and 18 Broodlords.

So, my question is, for a board that will be nearly all corridor, small rooms, and tons of cover, would this be a viable army to run?

This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."

OK

In close quarters I cannot see much being able to counter that.

Hell yes. I think pretty much anything would just fall apart in the face of that. The opponent could never complain, though, because it would be so awesome.

Then they'll go an cry in the corner, complaining about how they thought CC was dead (it said it on the internet, it must be true)

Looks cool....But I think you still need HQ + two troops....so Deatleaper and two broods of "Stealers?

There's no reason to max your FOC Troops Slots. Just go with the minimum number of broods for that (4 for double FOC) and put the rest in manufactorum formations.

4 Genestealer Broods +13 Manufactorum Genestealer Broods+3 Broodlord's Hunting Pack

Not that it makes to much of a difference but the 8 broods moved over have more deployment options and lose nothing.

You also need two HQs also for double FOC. Deathleaper and Prime?

Single FOC would reduce your HQ requirement to one and let you put more broods in formations.

Not much could deal with that. Screamerstar could stand a chance, just because of the 2++ Invuln and a decent amount of damage, perhaps anyone who can bring lots of Flamers. (Ork Burna Boys en masse could cause a lot of damage, with a little luck, and Purifiers would be downright painful. Seraphim might be pretty good too, except that they'd be a jump unit in heavy terrain.

Ork Boy hordes might be able to stop you too, but it depends on exactly how crowded your boards are.

If your opponent can't bring lots of Flamers, or enough models to drown even that many Genestealers, I doubt they can survive.

My question becomes whether or not you own 300+ genestealers. And if so...pictures...now

Can you take multiples of the same formation though? Like 1 at Single FOC, and 2 at Double, or simply 1 period?

Really? Nice. That makes it actually rather easy to use the manufactorum genestealers.

The only one you can't use more than one of is the DL assassin brood, but that is because you can't have more than one unique. Folks are already testing out triple Endless Swarm lists.

Hmm, Endless Swarm *might* be fun, but this whole genestealer idea has caught me now. I even called my local FLGS owner about the "hypothetical purchase of 40 boxes of genestealers and any discounts included therein." He got quiet for a second before asking if I wanted it in bulk or installments.

Lightning claw terminators might be able to hurt piles of 'stealers. Points wise you could never match the bugs numbers but...

Marine infantry spam might do it. The lack of grenades on the stealers lets the marines shoot, overwatch, and then strike first.

I like stealers and all... but I also like to compete in all phases of the game and stealers only do one thing...

Granted, it's great to infiltrate 100 T4 models up to your opponents door step (but more importantly deploy after him even with first turn).

Genestealers with adrenal glands are perhaps the only thing in the book that can take on anything in CC. An equivalent amount of points of genestealers would even defeat a Knight titan.

With the amount of points that 335 gene stealers and 15 brood lords would cost I don't see it as being all that large.A few apocalyptic blast templates and the core of the army could vanish. It is also highly vulnerable to speed bumps.

An line of kroot or guardsmen or cultists with the rest of the army camping at board's edge could invalidate the infiltrate and leave the squishy stealers in the open.

Awesome? Yes.
Actually effective? No.

Exept there is no corner to hide in and blast apart everything. In his post hes says hes working on a special board with a ton of LOS blocking walls.

You run an elite army, don't ya?

My friends say it takes a special kind of person to run a horde, but really, to bring it back on topic, I did some more planning out. Only thing I can't figure out is the size of the large oval and the flying bases. Anyone happen to know the sizes? I figure they are too small for the standard hallways, which I plan to make 2 and 3 inches wide. My buddies were more than excited to play "Space Hulk: Apocalypse Edition" provided I made it work overall, so that most things could actually fight. Probably gonna have to make a few open hangars though, for tanks, etc.

Yes, a short-range dedicated close combat unit will do quite well when put in terrain designed exactly for them and which handicaps 90% of other models. Not to be rude, but building a board with no area *not* coated in LOS-blocking terrain and then taking nothing but hordes of a unit whose only weakness is shooting seemsa bit TFG. Unless you opponent is also specifically building a list to work in those exact conditions.

Hmm, I think that is the first time I have been called a TFG, even to small degree. Feels...odd. Anywho, yea, he is. Haven't kept track on his end, but I think he will do fine. He likes the DV bundles, and gets them very cheap, so I would say he is fine with the amount of plasma cannons and assault cannons he should be able to field.

I love this thread. Please post pics when it's all underway.

And only TFG would say you're that TFG, this is super-cool. As long as you post pix.

This seems awesome. I would love to play against this many 'stealers using swarms of Tau Gun Drone Squads. Taking a Farsight Enclaves list, you can make a list with 1 Crisis Commander, 4 Total Crisis Suits to fulfill the Troops choice requirements and 46 Gun Drones. Add 2 Drones for each additional suit you take up to a max of 14 suits/28 drones, for a total of 19 suits/72 Gun Drones. Maxed out double FOC gives 40 Suits and 148 Drones. Give all the suits dual flamers and burst cannons.

Then you jump out, shoot and jump back. The 'stealers can't charge what they can't trace LoS to (pretty sure about this, might be wrong). So, properly played, the Tau would have several turns of shooting and moving back. All the gun drone shots are AP5 and cause pinning. So depending on the pinning results, you'd get more and more turns of shooting.
