Aren't they all dead?
That means playing them would mean playing an army that has already lost.

That is really sad.

Why not replace them with other characters?

Let me know

Thanks

Austin

Gathering the Informations.

For the same reason that Eldrad is still a character for the Eldar.

The fact that a character is 'dead' in the lore does not necessarily mean that they should be removed. The reason for that is so that you're not stuck playing "right now, and only right now" in terms of the timeframe of the setting. You get to have the option of playing historical campaigns or right here and right now.

Plus it allows for you to have a "template" for you to work from for a unique special character of your own.

Why are you assuming that all battles are happening at the latest event in time? It's a fantasy setting, I'll set my battles where and when including who I want thank you

They're magically animated dead people, getting killed is a minor inconvenience. Vampires are resurrected all the time, Dracula does it like twice every year.

So that you can replay famous battles from history. Also, the Von Carsteins are cool.

I see what you mean and honestly I'd like to hear more about the other vampires. However as it said 'Vampire Counts' refers to the vampires who are also elector counts and therefore have a possible claim at the imperial throne for the empire. So yeah as f'ed up as it sounds they want to rule the empire with an undead army.

I'd still like to see characters from the other types of vampire but since the book is about elector count vampires they probably are in the spotlight for that reason.

I would've preferred to see abhorash (the dragon slaying vampire) or the ghoul kings with a named character. I suppose we'll have to wait for that day sadly. If it ever comes that is.

It'd be cool if there was somebody that could make custom models for certain characters and then you could throw up rules for them. I suppose forge world does that enough though.

Well...

When you are an immortal undead Vampire, being dead isn't as permanent as you might make out to be.

There was even some fluff that I read of where some guy almost succeeded in raising Konrad from the dead.

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

Why would you want to? He'd just kill everybody there probably and go crazy licking up all the blood.

It was a necromancer or some lesser vampire seeking to gain some extra power.

He was thwarted by dwarves so it all worked out.

They aren't immortal. They just don't die of old age. Maybe splitting hairs, but they can still be permanently destroyed. The only immortals are DoC. If the WHFB is lifted up and thrown into the sun, there will be no more HE, DE, VC, Slann, Dragon Ogres, Dragons, etc etc. But there will still be daemons.

Yeah but some of the characters in WHFB have done some truly ridiculous feats. Like nothing super stupid like 40k but the dead slann that still has the consciousness of himself and can still cast spells is pretty godly (forget the pansy emperor in 40k that's mostly dead and doesn't actually get up to do anything and needs 1,000 psykers sacrificed to him per day). Not to mention nagash which has been killed multiple times and in the case of the skaven was only left with one hand (which took like over a thousand years to regain its power into humanoid form).

Oh, no doubt. There's some truly badass WHFB dudes and legends. But if the entire planet is picked up by the Old Ones, who come back from their extended Summer Vacation, and throw it into a star, no relic Slann priest is going to exist. Everyone at that point is taking 23498238942348923 D6 S10 dmg per round that ignores all saves. (Stars are OP hot.)

Any daemons who were on the planet at the time go, "well that sucks, " and pop back to the realm of chaos.

Even if something could survive temporarily, they got nowhere to go. Only Daemons. Who just go to some other dimension to harass people.

The current living heir to the Carnstein Family is working in Altdorf (see Silver Nails)

Manfred is very active - lots of major battles in the Storm of Chaos protecting his Province and then helping raise the siege of Middenheim before heading home.

Apparently however acording to the most recent army books he is now Nagashs's Bi&%h and spends his time kidnaping Elf Princess's and acting as a butler for the Great Necromancer.............

If warpstone does, pretty sure every band of radiation in existence does, as well as gravity and all the other stuff a star pukes out. Even in the insanely unlikely event they survived, they would be haunting the sun without a means to get off.

The idea of ghosts on the sun is pretty ridiculous. Technically ghosts are already dead though so ;P.

I'm remembering conflicting things. The bad moon is supposed to be pure warpstone. And I thought that was formed by the Old Ones when their ship collapsed. That's in the beastmen book somewhere. But I also read warpstone is solid magic.

In the skaven book warpstone is solidified magic. Also is the 'bad moon' you're talking about 'morrslieb' or however it was spelled.

What I sort of enjoy about the fluff in the WHFB books is that it can be somewhat contradictory because the army books always write story from the eyes of the race of the book. Usually it seems to be more the opinions on things that is objective though, but maybe even facts can be? Maybe it being solidified magic is just how we Skaven perceive it because it happens to be very full of the magic that created us. It stands to reason we might draw the conclusion that it's pure magic if we can't find a resemblance to anything else on earth.
I've actually kept my knowledge of other race's fluff thin on purpose, because I like having the opinions of my rats about the other races, untainted by annoying things like facts.

There are many special characters in WHFB which are dead. Many of the orcs are and Gorthar the Beastlord is too. Isn't there also a Empire character who is dead? It even says so in his description.

There are probably many more too. But death doesn't mean much to a world with a warp portal at the north and South Pole.

Edit: NM, forgot about Marius. Yeah, he's a dead 'un.
