Plan is for the libby to go with the Tac squad in the Razorback. hunt tanks and whatnot second tac squad combat squads and goes for mid field points. Snipers are backfield and sternguard rove and contest. storm talon kills armor.

CC welcome first time playing since 3rd edition.

EDIT: Combi Meltas for sternguard.

I guess my big worry is; Did i pick the right combi weapons on the sternguard?
My opponents are going to be either BA or iyanden, 2 chaos demons armies (one nurgle the other does all 4,) nids, and possibly two unknown armies.

Just bring 4 combi meltas. Flamers won't make a difference if you get assaulted as 2d3 bolter hits plus x Sternie bolter shots (which are better anyway) won't stop any reasonable unit from killing your Sternguard in assault.

A character might but then at that point, no reason in taking the flamers anyway just... don't take combi flamers on Sternguard. Anything that dies to a flamer dies to ignores cover bolter fire.

Now, what can Sternguard NOT do normally? Kill tanks. What do Combi meltas do? Allow you to kill tanks if taken in high enough numbers. This allows your expensive marine unit to engage more targets effectively. Versatility is the name of the game with Marines.

Plasma is good but you already have a 24" rapid fire, low ap or better wounding gun. You don't really need another one.

Also they really deserve a Drop Pod

I hypothetically could drop pod them. But I worry about them taking out more than their points without getting destroyed. I suppose i could try it and see how it goes.
point taken with the Melta. edited first post to reflect.
Now i have ALL THE MELTA.
