Alright so I have been so busy this past year I have almost no time to game. I need to pick one of my armies and will probably sell the other. I have one of them listed, but I am not sure if that is the army I want to sell. So here are my two armies:
1. Space Marines (Crimson Fists drop pod)
-30 sternguard (9 combi meltas, 9 combi plas)
-6 Drop Pods
-30 Tacticals
-2 storm talons

2. Imperial guard (large blast from across the map)
- 3 basilisks
- 2 LR demolishers with multi melta sponsons
- 1 Manticore
- 70 some troops
- 2 Vendettas

I have additional space marine and imperial guard, but these are the armies I use. Which would you keep and which would you get rid of? The play styles are completely opposite so I know I am comparing apples to thermometers here, but still, I need help deciding!

Is there a particular reason you have to get rid of one rather than put it in storage under your bed or on top of a shelf or something?

There is a saying that goes like this, more or less:
"When you have to choose between two things, toss and flip a coin. It will not choose for you but, when the coin is in air, you will know what you do truly want."

If you cannot do otherwise, keep the army you have the most fun playing with.

Keep the Guard. Space Marines are lame.

I'd second the notion to keep them. Neither army should take up that much space, and I imagine there's nothing worse than one day realising you really didn't want to lose that army you put all the time/effort/cash into. Even if they don't get touched for months, they're not costing you anything to keep.

Wait for IG new codex. It should be released very soon.

Unless you need the cash to pay the rent, or the amount of clutter generated is causing untenable domestic strife, keep them. The cries of “I wish I never got rid of my old army” outweigh the “I’m glad I got rid of it”

If you still want to sell, try to wait for the rumored new guard codex. See how it strikes you.

Barring that, keep the marines. FoTM armies might come and go, but marines are a solid, middle of the road, army that weathers edition changes mostly unchanged. If you are taking a break from the hobby, and want to keep one army on the shelf for your eventual return, marines are a safe bet.

I would advise waiting for the new IG codex to come out before making a final decision.
I would also advise keeping both unless you absolutely have no other alternative besides getting rid of one.
Otherwise, keep the marines. Like someone already said, other armies come and go, but marines stay fairly solid all the time.

Definitely keep them. I got rid of two armies just to buy them back 3 months later. Plus those armies ally well together.

Well why are you selling them? If you need the cash I would sell the one that would make the most money the fastest which might be IG when the new release happens because people will want them once it is released.

I personally wouldn't sell them even if you aren't using them. Just throw them in a shoebox in the closet or something. You might have a change of heart right after you sell them (that happens to eveeeeeeryone) becuas emaybe in 6 months you are going to be like "Damn I should have kept those guard I want to paint up some more and play a few games".

Maybe a friend will want to play and then you have an extra army he can use or maybe even sell it to him or better yet gift it to him if they decide they want to start collecting an army.

I say keep them. You will kick your self in the ass for selling them next year. Why not keep them both and use them both when you play as allies?

One rule is never give up your toys. You will regret it. I did that 15 years ago, and wish I kept them. Non 40K stuff, but still wish I had them now.

They should be easy to store as was said earlier, and just keep them both. Play with one, then when you want to do something different, you have another army that you will not have to buy, make and paint.

Keep the IG with Marine allies. Then you have one army, and dont need to get rid of anything.
