Well, this is awkward… It’s been a while since I did any sustained hobby. You know how it is, real life, responsibilities, yada yada. But I’m back into the routine and working with my first love, Emperor’s Children.

Initially I was going to go with a fairly classic pre Heresy scheme and try to come up with a fluffy justification for it (purple and gold is so much nicer than pastel pink and black), but I was browsing the internet for inspiration and I cam across this awesome picture. I love how bright and vibrant the colours are.

I was also reading some fluff, and I came across this passage:

During the Heresy, the Emperor's Children repainted their armour in those colours which honour Slaanesh -- pastel colours such as pink and black; they also favour bright, garish, clashing, sensuous colours for decoration and no two Emperor's Children Astartes will have the same colour patterns on their Power Armour… An excellent description of what an Emperor's Children Astartes looks like in the 41st Millennium is here recounted:

"[His] armour was enamelled with garish hues, eye-watering purple and squint-inducing gold, and encrusted with garish decoration and filigree like a tree choked with vines run amok. What flesh that could be seen within the armour was pale white, and studded with piercings, needles and rings of all varieties."
[x]

With these two pieces of inspiration, I decided to alter my initial scheme. While the armour will still be purple with gold trim, I’m going to be adding a lot of bright colours into the mix.

I’ve started out with a single test model, one of the chaos marines from Dark Vengeance. I’m happy with the way the armour colours are coming out, but I’m still feeling a little bit uncoordinated with the paintbrush.

Once I’m done with the test mini, I’ll be moving on to some of the other chaos minis I’ve got laying around: a terminator lord, a squad of six old school metal noise marines I picked up at a consignment shop, and a ForgeWorld sonic dreadnaught that's partly painted that I’m going to strip.

noise marine

I've started modelling the terminator lord (excuse the sticky tack, it's still a work in progress). The head is from the chaos spawn kit, I think it works really well as an Emperor's Children character. I'm going to do a re-pose on the arms so they're spread a bit wider rather than being held in front of the face.

Hopefully this intro has got enough info to be of interest, any questions or feedback is most appreciated. On a semi-related note, I wasn’t able to find a source for the image of the noise marines I shared above, if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be amazing.

Cheers BB! It's always nice to get some positive feedback.

Another painting update (please excuse the grubby fingers, I moved not too long ago and don't have a photography setup yet):

I'm really happy with the overall paint scheme. There are a few bits and pieces where I probably could have used a different colour, but that's going to be different for each model. The head on this particular model is looking a bit Dark Eldar, but I think it's the sculpt of the head as much as the way it's painted. I'm still not happy with my painting technique, but I'm hoping I'll keep getting better as I do it more regularly.

And a shot of the backpack, which I forgot to include in my initial post.

I've been playing around with assembling my noise marines and damn if I'm not really looking forward to painting them up. I'm aiming to finish up painting the test model before I post my next update, so keep an eye out for that.

Well, I lied. I haven't finished painting the test model yet.

But I have been working on some other work on this project. The biggest bit of news is that I've kitbashed an icon bearer.

It's using some ForgeWorld armour, pieces from the CSM squad box and a possessed head. The backpack isn't attached yet, but I have one picked out, I promise!

I'm really happy with the way he's looking, I love the Slaanesh shoulder pad on the right arm. Any feedback would be very much appreciated.

Speaking of shoulder pads, mad props to xvlegion for helping me out with one of the shoulder pads for my terminator lord. I love it.

I've also been painting the cloak for my terminator lord.

I'm thinking about adding something to the top, on the two poles sticking out the top. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers, Jpogfreak886!

One thing you should know about me is that I am a very slow painter. But progress is happening. I got two of the six noise marines cleaned up and partly assembled (they are some spiky ), and I eventually got them primed after losing a backpack to my overgrown lawn and getting a pin stuck in my foot

I'm trying to break the purple up as much as possible, and limit how much gold trim I use.

That's all for today, any and all feedback is always welcome.

Thanks so much for the feedback, guys. It's always nice to have feedback.

Once again, I am such a slow painter. On top of that, I've just come out of a heavy assessment period at school, so I've had sweet bugger all time to paint. I've made a bit more progress, nearly finished the body and blaster for the first noise marine. Although now I'm looking at these photos I'm noticing the big old mould line across this guy's mouth/tube/tongue thing

I am pretty happy with how the blaster is coming along. My favourite part is the yellow check on the grenade, although why there's a grenade chained to the blaster I couldn't tell you.

As always, any and all feedback is very much appreciated. I hope to have the first noise marine finished soon.

Always nice to see the old school noise marines around. Like the idea of the old colour scheme being pimped up a bit with a variety of colours, I'm down with no two Slaaneshi marines being exactly the same colour. Currently looking at turquoise as the main base for my guys, not sure how I got there, but the we go
