Have you ever had a game that went so horrible that you just set the models down and never picked them back up?

I started a Black Templar army once just before the new codex. After the new codex came out I agree'd to play a friendly game with my friends Thousand Sons. He really wanted to try the psykers, I really just wanted to play my marine army for once. I ended up having to throw together my list because it would turn out my Land Raiders had been destroyed and didn't have them anymore. SO I decided to play the game anyways, how bad could it be? we both foot slogged it so what.

WELL I didn't get first turn, and never left my deployment zone. That's what happened. Thousand sons AP3 bolters just chewed my Crusaders to bits. I could have brought my army on probably 4 more times from reserve and not gotten any further than I did.

I learned 2 things,1. I know nothing of assault and should stick to Tau and shooting. and 2. Thousand Sons rofl-stomp stabby marine armies.

Not one that made me put my models down forever, but I had a game against Daemons where my opponent rolled up perfect gifts on everything and then proceeded to murder my entire army. I managed to put 4 wounds in total on his entire army over 6 turns, and he wasn't using weighted dice (or if he was there was something wonky, seeing as I used the same dice). I've never been that thoroughly stomped before or since, and I've never had a more boring game. I felt kinda bad for the poor guy though, because you could really see how he almost felt dirty about the whole thing when it wasn't exactly his fault.

For thirteen years I had a dog with fur the darkest black. For thirteen years he was my friend, oh how I want him back.

This weekend. New IG vs Thousand Sons, I blew both of his heavy weapon squads and his command squad up first turn, and all three failed their leadership tests and ran off the board.

Then later he dropped in 10 veterans in a vendetta or whatever its called with max upgrades and weapons, must've cost a buttload of points. Ahriman rolled 3 6's on psykic shriek, and the vets are LD 8 so all 10 got killed by ahriman in 1 witchfire attack.

Played a balanced Dark Eldar Raider fleet against Tau. That's it. First turn he exploded 5/7 raiders & ravagers and half my army died in the explosions. Tabled turn 3. So much high strength fire power at such long range which ignores cover! WTF!!!

So you know what i did? I bought some Wargs, i converted and painted them to look as daemonic as possible and i ran a Beaststar with the Baron and a Shardseer. Started rematch, went first thanks to Baron, rolled perfect powers (Fortune, Misfortune and Prescience) and that unit absolutely dominated his Tau ass. That single unit accounted for about 1200 pts of his 1500pt army. Brutal. Revenge is a dish best served to the dogs!

Playing CSM after the Heldrake FAQ with Space Wolves. I was already struggling to compensate versus flyers; the quad gun wasn't enough. Then when I started seeing multiple heldrakes that would BBQ Long Fangs or Grey Hunters before they even got an attempt on the turkey... well I gres disenfranchised. Coupled with the fact I couldn't paint another wolf pelt or wolf skull or wolf tail talisman, they went "bye-bye".

Look, nearly 2 years into 6E and they still have no dedicated AA. Just like my SoB... hooray... :(

Imperial Fists. I had a Dark Angels army that I converted to IFs because I loved their chapter history and story much more. Played a few games, and realized that unless I bought the Centurions...making a list that could compete was a terribly uphill battle. Sold the army to buy into another game system that wasn't 40k and kept with the Eldar for my 40k needs.

I don't own the Wolves anymore, but I agree, it's something. I really, really don't like the look the of Stormraven, though. I love the Talon and wish there was just a trip-talon formation. I'd probably have used that. Right now I just use IG allies for a singular vendetta, but the points cost increase is kinda messing up lists.

Then again, most places are either disallowing formations in any form of competitive game or you may take one and they count as your allies.

I know I'll end up owning a Storm Raven someday if I stick it out with 40k as I intend to be a Blood Angels player, but paint them red/black and use Iron Hands bits to make "Iron Angels" so I can play either C:SM (IH) or BA. Or maybe just use them as Red Hunters w/ my GKs or SoB.

I had not lost with my flying circus, until 2 days ago. I thought it was invincible, but I realized I hadn't played a true tournament list yet against it.

I faced off against Necrons, with 3 scythes, 3 barges, a huge warrior squad and wraiths and proceeded to get my ass handed to me.

I had up until this point always played Tzeentch daemon princes, but for this game I thought I would run a Slaanesh prince for the lash, he also rolled gaze. So in essence all over my best anti air was stuck on one fragile prince who rolled badly for his psychic powers. On my other two princes I rolled decent enough for my gifts, no gaze though, and proceeded to roll horribly for my powers.

The game type was the relic and deployment was hammer and anvil.

My rolling was atrocious, and my opponents was far better than average. 2 of his scythes hit one of my princes 8 times a piece. Fateweaver also lost 2 wounds from perils of the warp over 3 turns.

It was one of the most absurdly pathetic games I have ever played.

I've had games that were over by Turn 1-2. I mean literally over. Superb rolling by my opponent, and horrible rolling by me had my army tabled. Quickly.

Never let it bother me though. Oh no, I lost. What a shame?

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

My worst loss had me tabled by top of three. Old vanilla marines vs new eldar, no wraith knight and two wave serpents. Oh was that game no fun. So I went home, rewrote my list and tried something else. Still lost but no where near as bad.

Its a game, have fun. If you arent for some reason...find a new one.

I played a footslogging Necron army designed to fight an Orke horde, but the guy didn't show and I used that army against an Imperial Guard tankline.

It was the first time I ever played Imperial Guard, and the worse ass beating I've taken to date. I think it was 2 weeks before I could even look at anything 40k-related.

Just needed some time to remind myself that its just a silly game.

My last recorded 5th ed game was that way.

It wasn't just that I lost, but it was the particular way in which I lost that made me see some things about 40k that I had been slowly stewing over, but it didn't all click until after that game.

After re-evaluating, I sort of wasn't left with my reason to play 40k anymore, as my reasons all vanished. I played a few more games while I was figuring it out, but every extra game I played just made my conclusions that much more obvious, and my pointlessness of playing that much more harshly inescapable.

I dropped out of the game for a bit over a year after that. By then, the rumors of immanent 6th ed made me possibly consider returning, but only if I could come up with some better reasons to play the game. Eventually I did, and so, with some amount of foot dragging and reluctance, decided to get back in.

I've been in an "off" spell for the last, wow, going on half a year now where I've only played a handful of games, but that's just a cyclical thing for me, not the result of any particular game.

Otherwise I've had bad games, and even gotten furiously angry, but it didn't stop me from showing up the next week to try again.

Well I never quit an army because they did poorly on 1 game i have on the other hand temporarily quit my army after a new dex comes out. For instance when grey knights came out i stopped playing them for a year and practised eldar as to not be a band wagoner, than when eldar came out i stopped playing them for a few months and just this year started to get back on them and am still being called a band wagoner. My very first game with Dark Eldar lasted one turn. I started all my models on the board, and my opponent's Imotekh rolled crazy 6's, and wound up blasting 75% of my army off the board before I even got a turn. I didn't even say anything, I just packed it all up. One of the most disheartening games ever. (We ended up playing a rematch a few hours later, which went much better.)

About a year ago now I took an 1850 Dark Angels (would have used C:SM had it been released by then) Mechanised list with Rhinos to a tournament, and I lost 4/5 games, one of the losses because of obscenely bad luck on individual rolls of single dice, but I only won the single victory because my opponent took a pretty garbage list with a few mechanised plague marines, a single Helldrake, and not much else remarkable. Basically, a very easy match up.

But yeah, from that moment forwards I realised that GW has just taken a complete gak on MEQ based armies and MEQ Mech. The single playstyle I can effectively run with my Marines is completely unplayable. I mean, I could also run Terminators galore, but they're such a joke they're not even approaching competitive.

The C:SM Codex excited me for about 1 week with the reveal that Raven Guard were getting a massive potential buff to the playstyle, but after that single week I deduced that Khan Scars and Bikes was the far superior option, and the same still holds true. The C:SM Codex just made Tacticals and SM Mech even more worthless, and I don't want to follow fashion and field the same list everyone else is fielding. Over my dead body.

For me, my last game with strangers was in 5th edition.

Long story short, didn't play much, but few games I did have was vehicle last turn rush. HATED it.

So I gave up. I continue to play with my son, (home rules) and just paint and collect slowly. Being a Nid player and now having no allies, haven't bothered playing still because why should I be at a disadvantage while almost everyone else, especially SM players can do all sorts of shenanigans.

TL;DR Unbalanced point system and crappy rules, I gave up playing.

I brought a Daemons Nurgle Army against Tau and was laughing at how stupid it was for an entire army to essentially delete the functionality of a ruleset that the entire game functions around.

Nothing like having a fancy table filled with beautiful ruins, forests and LOS blocking terrain (You know those tables, the ones you wish you could have in your basement, so gorgeous!) only to have someone bring Tau and effectively make all that terrain completely pointless. You might as well remove the terrain entirely and just use a stop watch to count how many turns it takes to have your army wiped out.

I think mine comes from way back when, some time during 5th Edition. The matchup was 4e Tyranids vs. my Tau army, also 4th Edition, and it was right when I was just getting into the game. The guy I played against was (and still is, though not quite to the same extent anymore) a total WAAC gamer, which pretty much means I can stop the story right here.

I don't remember the specifics of the game, since it was so long ago now, but I just remember getting completely slaughtered by the guy. Carnifexes, Hive Tyrants, big nasties flying around all over the place and wiping out my forces one by one...I think I was off the board by about turn 3, and ready to quit by the end of turn 2. I think it was that game that made me decide to just drop the Tau entirely and start playing Space Wolves, who were getting a lot of attention at the time.

Funnily enough, it seems like those two codices did a complete reversal over the years. Nids got steadily more and more lackluster, and Tau got one heck of a power boost in 6th Edition.

I haven't really had this happen to me in 40k. Our gaming group gained a super WAAC TFG though which slowly just killed the fun out of the game for me.

It was against BA. First turn I didn't land a single plate, or a single wound.

Second turn I missed all my re-rollable lascannons and MLS and both reinforcements failed on a 1.

3rd Turn both hellhounds got blown up without causing a single wound. And my Vendetta missed all 3 TL shots.

4th turn I was on my arse, causing 8 wounds max, with around 80 shots missed/saved.
