BioWare and Electronic Arts began throwing back the curtain on “Dragon Age: Inquisition” on Tuesday. The occasion was the announcement of the release date for the PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC role-playing game along with a new gameplay trailer.

“Dragon Age: Inquisition” is set for an Oct. 7, 2014 release date per Electronic Arts. With the delay of “The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt”, that puts BioWare squarely in the driver’s seat for AAA RPGs during the hot holiday sales season.

Meanwhile, the new trailer from Electronic Arts runs nearly two minutes and gives a mix of gameplay and story to help whet player’s appetites. It also helps serve to showcase the large and varied environments that are planned for “Dragon Age: Inquisition”. The world of the latest in the series will be much bigger than either of the two previous games though it won’t be completely open world.

Returning characters pop up as well with Leiliana and Cullen, now an ex-Templar, both shown prominently in the trailer. While players won’t be able to make either of the two characters a part of your part, they both play prominent roles as the heads of the Inquisition’s shadow and military arms. They also figure into the new War Table mechanic that allows the inquisitor send allies away on missions.

You can also spot the use of mounts in the trailer. Players shouldn’t get their hopes up too high though because, despite the appearance of dragons, mounts will be restricted solely to ground-based animal species.

The final scene in the trailer is interesting as well. All of the major players in the Inquisition are gathered around a table in a scene reminiscent of DaVinci’s “The Last Supper” painting.

For those that don’t know, “Dragon Age: Inquisition” thrusts players into the role of the Inquisitor following a tear in the Veil, which leads to demons invading Thedas. Players will not only need to enter into combat but command the Inquisition to find the cause and put a stop to it.

Looking forward to this one. Curious ro see how much inquisitorial style of things we do, instead of just going into dungeons and knocking heads around.

Thought DA1 was excellent both in terms of production values and a solid rpg title.
Da2 less so, felt more restrictive to me and the characters simply werent as engaging.
Will keep an eye on #3 and hope they move things up a notch.

Will wait for the first reviews to trickle in.

Dragon Age: Origins was extremely well-made. Dragon Age 2 was an utter pile of trash.

I liked DA2, possibly more than Origins. I'm in no rush to get this though, there are a lot of good games coming out at the end of the year and there are games that I am far more interested in. I will get DA3 eventually but I will be waiting until its in a sale.

Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

I loved both DA: Origins and DA:2

Totally different games, but enjoyed 'em both. I do think they painted themselves into a corner by ending the Blight so quickly - every other Blight has lasted decades or centuries and quite frankly beating up Qunari or apostates or even demons isn't as satisfying as fighting waves of darkspawn to save the world from destruction.

This is my view as well.

I've read they are returning a lot more to the roots with this one, so we will see. I would like some answers to a lot of the lingering questions from DA1...

I liked both DA:O and DA2. They were different games but once I got into DA2 I loved it. DA:I is rumored to have the gameplay be somewhere between the two.

Of course I have to upgrade my PC and/or buy a new console before Oct...

I thought I'd read that Cullen is a party member this time around.

Cassandra Pentaghast (the woman who interrogates Varric in the DA2 framing story) and Varric will both apparently be returning as party members. From what I've heard, Varric stuck around with Cassandra after she finished her interrogation of him. Morrigan (disapproves!) will also be back, though not as a party member (and not as part of the Inquisition). No word yet on the status of her child.

The protagonist's race can be determined by the player. Choices include human, dalish elf, dwarf, or a qunari who was never part of the Qun (born to parents who had already abandoned it). Also, according to Bioware, your supporting cast will react to your class specialization.

When asked about the Hero of Fereldan and Hawke, Bioware hasn't stated whether either of them will be in the game. However, they have stated that if either one of the characters appear, they don't want the appearence to be just a minor cameo.
