No idea if I ever posted these up on Dakka so figured I would. They were a quick job block painted then dipped. The Varnish frosted which was a same but I am happy enough with them. I started painting them ages ago and got annoyed with seeing them half painted.

They look good. I like the color scheme.

I have to admit, though, that my favorite mini is the one behind the weaponless champion. He's got his spear pointed forward as if to say, "gak. Dimwitael's drunk again. I'd better cover his butt well or I'm the one out of a job tomorrow."

Yeah I forgot to add the leaders weapon and didn't bother to add it in the end.

I like the gold/red colour scheme you've used. The shields on yours also help to bulk them out a bit so they look less spindly than usual. I'd go back and add a weapon to the leader, though - he looks like he's toasting the enemy with an invisible cup!

Yeah my elves are drunkards.

Give him a pint then. Or a poncy wine goblet (they are elves after all)

As for the frosting, it's possible that was the choice of varnish. I used to dip a lot and many common spray varnishes I had reacted badly with the pigments in the dip.

Lovely colour scheme, btw. I might have to steal that if I can ever be bothered to start on mine.

Maybe they were not dry enough or something.

I used testers dullcoat

Feel free to steal it, I was going for a roman / spartan kind of colour scheme.

Dullcoat should have been fine. Could have still been off-gassing from the dip. Could have been the humidity/temperature.
Could have been the elf-hating frost pixies. Spray varnishes are a bugger for consistency. A mate of mine painted the armour for a WW2 german army in winter war colours and then watched as the obviously not photo-stable humbrol varnish he'd used slowly turned all the lovely snowy white into yellow over the next few weeks.

Could be any number of reasons it seems. It's made me switch to brush primer now though, less risk of ruining what I have done so far.

With my Samurai I am not dipping but I am using a protective cost of gloss varnish then I am going to use matt varnish on everything but the armour, the armour is meant to be shiny after all.

I've had Testors Dullcote fog on me. It's happened twice, both times with an almost empty can.

You can fix the frost by using a brush on gloss varnish, then re-spray with matte when that's dry.

I've had luck fixing frosting using the Army Painter anti-shine in the 18ml dropper bottle (brush on)

Ding ding ding...

When I was a newer painter, I took an huge project outside for varnishing. I'd done, oh... 40pts of my wife's Legion of Everblight. Sprayed the whole thing, and not realizing how humid it was, that that can be a huge factor, and I frosted the lot of them. I'd painted them to a high standard too.

So, to correct it, no joke, in about 30-seconds.... Rub them with some olive oil. It will undo the frosting effect 100%. :-)
