Subject: Eternal guard or Wildwood rangers?

So I preordered two boxes of eternal guard/wildwood rangers, and I was wondering how to build them? I prefer the wildwood ranger models, but eternal guard are core so that might be a better place to start?
I also got 2 boxes of wild riders/sisters of the thorn, should I build a 10 unit of wild riders or 5 wild riders and 5 sisters of the thorn?
Thanks guys

It really depends on the rest of the list, wood elves are huge on synergy. Most likely though you will want to build 10 wild riders, they are one of the best units at the moment.

I would suggest Eternal Guard, as Wildwood certainly look good, but they don't perform as spectacularly (which is sad, because they really are very pretty). I think many people give E-Guard a short stick, if you put them in a venomy forest, they still re-roll hits against most and have AP.
They're not a spectacular core, but they're by no means worthless.
It also helps I'm a sucker for spears and trees.

People always point out how good eternal guard will be in a forest, especially in a venom forest, and they're right. That's why no one is going to attack them in the forest. They will just sit there being ignored.
Personally I think its It's better to put glade guard in the forest where they can shoot out of, and if they are attacked they will be meaner than is normally expected.
Then you can use eternal guard to protect them as speed bumps, redirectors, to flank, or whatever.
I'm not sure which I like better, but eternal guard are core so you could take them instead of rangers so you have more points for specials, like wild riders and scouts, which I think will be pretty fun.

Mathammer wise, eternal guard will be the better option, however if you like the look, just build your eternal guard with hoods!
But yes it definitely depends on the rest of the list.

Word on the street is use eternal guard to grab and hold and then roll into the flank later with wild wood rangers.
Wildwood rangers seem to have 1 specific role that they do on their own in large blocks... slaughter ogres.

Ok, lets help you. Yes the rest of the list is relevant, but it appears you are starting and want an actual answer.
BUILD THE RANGERS
1. You will need more than 20 elves to make decent spear unit.
2. Rangers are a mobile attack force, you can always find use for this in a small game. Eternal Guard are a static anvil unit, which is easier to avoid in small games.
3. Rangers provide S5, so you can take these are your beatstick and can then start focusing on archery. If you build the Eternal Guard, you will still need something else to provice melee power.
Rangers therefore are not 'better' but cover more bases at an early stage of list making allowing you to focus on the core archery while leaving less undone. Later three boxes of eternal Guard will be about right.
I cannot decided between the two deer rider types. I would take the girlies because they are a toolbox and thus more useful at an early stage, besides rangers provide hitting power, so you dont need Wild Riders so much right now. Again you will need two more boxes sometime, but can put that off.
Meanwhile archers, archers, archers, and get your magic in.

I take the Eternal Guard, just because they can be a better anvil than the Rangers, stubborn ten (with re-rolls if you take a BSB, and you will) is very hard to shift and when buffed with life (or the enemy is debuffed by death/shadow ect) can be quite effective at grind combat

Eternal guard are good for bunkering characters.
Use them as a static anvil in an otherwise highly mobile army.
Or get a BSB in there with the forest teleport item ( i forget what its called).

The item is called the 'Moonstone of Hidden Ways' or something like that...
I thought the WWR's would be best suited for using the moonstone: something like use the acorn to place some trees in the centre of the battlefield, park the WWR's in your free forest on your quarter, shoot like crazy to force the enemy towards you, once they make it half way, teleport your WWR's into the middle and flank your approaching enemy.
EG seem better suited for counter-charging into forests, rather than parking them inside one. I would place some scouts into a forest, spam poison shots and when the enemy does charge, flee and have your eternal guard counter charge into the opponent (who should be stuck inside the forest due to difficult terrain).
Just some observations, prehaps some more seasoned generals are able to offer better insight into this theory.
I dare say the WWRs get my vote for coolness factor. Run a BotEF or Razor standard and use them as monster hunters (of which you otherwise lack reliable higher strength hits).

I think I'm going to try baiting opponents into charging the eternal guard in woods by having characters in their. Then hit the flank with wildriders.

Difficult Terrain isn't a thing anymore, only Dangerous. Forests don't slow you down.
Not sure how Eternal Guard with a character in them would tempt me into charging them when there are Wild Riders on my flanks, though.

Yeah Wild Riders scare the living piss out of me and not just on my flanks. The amount of damage they can dish out is just absurd!
