I miss having an imperial guard codex that wasnt Codex Cadia. Hate the models, I need variety. Luckily the imperial guard have so many 3rd party alternatives otherwise id leave 40k haha.

But I wish the regiments fluff didnt get reduced in size with each edition. Thats it really.

I miss movement stats.

I miss that only Eldar and Tyranids get to run.

I miss that SM players had to actually think and choose what grenades they had to use and what missiles they took.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

That's because Cadia is a centerpiece of the Imperial Guard. The very best in the universe. No other regiment can trade blows with Cadia.

-Weapons profiles from 2nd edition.

-Chapter Approved army lsts, like Kroot mercs.

-The lost sense of whimsical fun that drove 40k up through about 4th edition.

-Vehicle Design Rules

-Not really only 40K , but having White Dwarf feeling like it was run by huge fans of the game, which benefitted 40K.

New armies/races.

Sisters, Necrons and Dark Eldar all came out within a year or so of each other, then Tau in the early 00s. Grey Knights in 03 and nothing since - unless you count one unit armies like Knights, or Codex: Kasrkin or whatever it was actually called. Like we really need more imperial factions anyway...

Rather than expanding the 40K universe seems to be growing smaller.

I miss when GW actually cared. I miss them publishing articles about how to model your own vehicles and scenery. I miss them hosting tournaments and interacting with players.
I miss when GW was more than just selling models.

I miss Howling banshees being good.
I miss running my khorne berzerker army and having it be effective.
I miss Marine devastators having targeters.
I miss Multi meltas having a blast radius.

Also, check out my history blog: Minimum Wage Historian, a fun place to check out history that often falls between the couch cushions.

I agree with the nostalgia for melee armies that weren't centered around a gimmick or expoit to get them across the board.

Like above, Banshees used to be a cool unit that was worthwhile.

I miss the GW game developers being in charge of the game development.
The short term sales focus the GW sales department inflicts on the rules is getting very tiresome.

Daemon Princes that are actually capable of fighting in melee without getting stuck on a single 5 pt character every round.

Daemon Princes that are capable of surviving until at least midgame.

Chaos Marine army lists that are capable of winning without Ap 3 flamer spam.

CSM's without "Champion of Chaos".

Squats and the Movement stat.

Pffft, its all propaganda. Ive never seen a cadian with violet eyes.

Plus their marching is appalling.

I miss the time when deathstar meant 2+ save and possibly a 4++ save.

I miss the time when you could have a unit that was good at close combat without being a deathstar.

I miss the time when an army was one army.

I miss the time where everyone knew and agreed on what was a tournament/cheesy/beardy list and what wasn't.

Most of all, I miss the time when I could finish a game in a reasonable time frame.

If I say Squats, are people going to hate me?

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
