Boosting Space Marine Biker
|
Just a few quick questions
As a Vanilla Marine Player, I'm curious how the rhino rush has been affected.
1) What are the new rules for disembark / assault out of transports? (love me some drop pods and rhinos)
2) Can you now shoot heavy weapons / psychic powers out of transport hatches?
3) Any changes to basic Space Marine Rules or weaponry?
4) Overwatch and scoring rules changes?
I figured these will get the ball rolling and be useful for the 50% of us or so that do the power armor thing

x++ means an invulnerable save. You will also sometimes see x+++ for FNP.

Okay so it would be for example 4+++, I would need to roll a 4 or higher to get all of those saves, or one of them at a time rather

How are you playing a tournament using the new rules a day before they're supposed to be released?
And a question. Any changes to salvo or rapid fire weapons?

So far seems like a great improvement, and nearly even "cheese" has been outright killed by making it illegal, or at least nerfed down to manageable levels.
Honestly, so far, not a single thing strikes me as "wrong", except the fact the annibarge got even better, but that's a case-specific unit in an out-of-date codex.

From what I have seen on his posts, no not really. Also I suspect with the new Psyker rules, Mephiston and the Librarian took a huge hit. Basically, IMO BA need several things to change to make them "better."
1) Let us assault from Deep Strike, or out of any vehicle.
2) Better assault units in general. Assault marines have access to chainswords, not horrible, but not very effective really. I think more access to power weapons, or even an increased WS and S stat could help a lot here.
3) Better ways to stay in the fight during CC. BA are stellar on the charge with a Reclusiarch, but if they can't smear whatever they are charging they get tarpitted very easily and lose in battles of attrition.
4) Lower point costs for units.
5) Allow our Assault Marines to carry boltguns as a wargear option and give them relentless. The relentless could be a buff from a character, I wouldn't mind that, but allowing them to take boltguns would make them a LOT better than they are now. Not that what they can carry now is horrible, but I am of the opinion that they could be better. Take this at face value, it is only my opinion.
6) Allow FNP on a 4+ again. Like maybe having a sergeant upgrade to a priest that confers this. I actually think this would solve a LOT of problems in of itself.
Outside of that I have various unit gripes that I would like to see, but these are the things overall that need to change and I think a new codex is the only way we will see these changes.
Bear also in mind that a lot of the hate that I see BA getting is from tourney play standards. These things would bring them close to a competitive army, but seriously, they aren't a bad army to play, and I have fun every single damn time I field them. That is enough for me!

1) exactly the same content, verbatim.
2) ignore actual questions asked and just enter the content in the same order.

Jink saves and vehicle damage rules got better I believe, and the annibarge doesn't really care if it's snap shotting or not.

the eldar armies that run dark eldar ally didn't get changed and that was the top army in 6th . In fact with tau getting a lot of nerfs they got better . When one adds the fact that save for demons , most armies won't be able to stop eldar from casting . I would say their "cheese" builds were not nerfed.
The only thing that got realy nerfed are tau and it is not like they were wining major events , anyway.

I figured these will get the ball rolling and be useful for the 50% of us or so that do the power armor thing I recently read through the rulebook (mostly) as well, so I'll try to answer some of the questions here. 1. Edit: disregard previous comment. It looks to be the same. 2. Heavy weapons: yes, but if the vehicle moved, the models inside count as having moved, so they would fire snap shots. Psychic powers: yes, but only witchfire powers. 3. Nothing that I could see, but I didn't take a super in-depth look. 4. Overwatch is identical, but EVERYTHING is now a scoring unit, save for models that are flying (it specifically mentions zooming fliers and swooping FMCs). Although this may seem absurd, it's essentially a requirement for the Tactical Objectives to work at all - though I'm not sure how Eternal War missions are going to be affected by this. Selym wrote: 1. How has Smash changed, if at all? 2. Has melee had any changes worth mentioning, and if so, are they better or worse? 3. How bad is the proliferation of daemons? 1. Smash has been reduced, as rumored, to a single attack, rather than half of the attacks characteristic. No changes otherwise - it still doubles strength (to a max of 10), and it still allows re-rolls for armor penetration. 2. No major changes. You can now assault out of buildings (if you couldn't before, I can't recall), and FMCs can no longer assault on the turn they change flight modes. Aside from that, it's all pretty much the same. 3. Honestly, with the changes to how Psychic powers work, I'm not worried. The thing is, you need to roll at least 3 4+ results on a variable number of D6s (you choose how many to devote to a single test, based on how many dice you get in the Psychic Phase), and since it's a Malefic power, if you roll any doubles whatsoever, you roll on the Perils table. Basically, it requires quite a few dice - or quite a bit of luck - for it even to work, and odds are good that you'll be rolling on Perils at least a few times during the attempt. Kain wrote:Jink saves and vehicle damage rules got better I believe, and the annibarge doesn't really care if it's snap shotting or not. To clarify for anyone curious, here's the rundown. Jink now works exactly like how it works for fliers - when a unit with Jink is fired upon by a shooting attack, BEFORE wounds are rolled, it may choose to Jink or not. This includes flying skimmers and Bikes, too, it's a change to the USR. If the unit chooses to jink, it gets a 4+ cover save (yes, 4+, not 5+), BUT all shooting attacks are snap shots for the next turn. As for damage, it's sort of like with what happened in 6th, in that every damage result got bumped up by one. 1-3 is Shaken, 4 is Stunned, 5 is Weapon Destroyed, 6 is Immobilized, and only on a 7+ will the vehicle Explode. This obviously means that only weapons with AP1 or 2 (or open-topped vehicles) can cause Explodes results. Also, the whole Locked Velocity thing is gone for fliers - if they get immobilized, they roll a d6, and on a 1 or a 2, the vehicle crashes. On a 3+, the result gets downgraded. Raz'kull Skull Krusha wrote:I will be playing a two's tournemant competition playing the new 7th edition tomorrow after work, any indication if a Shooty or Dakka list is looking the faveroit also how is reserves looking and Physcic powers looking? Reserves didn't change at all, except for Psychic Powers, in a sort of roundabout way. Since the Psychic Phase occurs after the Movement Phase, Psykers actually generate charges and can cast powers after coming on. From the looks of things, Psychic Powers are going to be quite a bit more difficult to manifest, especially when it comes to powers with higher charge costs. Quick summary: At the beginning of the psychic phase, the active player rolls a d6. Both players then get a pool of dice equal to the d6 result plus all total Mastery Levels on their side (including units in transports). The active player then chooses a psyker and one of its powers and chooses how many dice to use for the attempt. More dice makes it more likely for the power to activate, but it also increases the likelihood of getting Perils, which happens whenever 2 or more 6s are rolled on the dice. Basically, in order to manifest a power, the caster needs to roll a total of 4+ results on the dice equal to or greater than the number of charges that the spell costs, so if you want to cast, say, Guide, you have to roll a single 4+. As for Deny the Witch, it's sort of the same, but only on a 6+. Once the psychic test has been passed, the opposing player can choose to use their own dice from their charge pool to nullify the power - this time, they need to roll a number of 6s equal to the number of successes (with the usual modifiers, +1 for being a Psyker, +1 for being a better Psyker, +1 for Adamantium Will). Additionally, beneficial psychic powers can be canceled in the same way, but you do not get any of the above bonuses. Overall, psychic powers became much more difficult to cast, which provides a huge balancing force to armies that thrived on spamming them.

I imagine that the changes, both in losing armorbane from 5th to 6th, and losing attacks from 6th to 7th, is partly a way to make vehicles more viable. I remember Carnifexes being called can openers back in 5th, because they were able to crack open vehicles (even heavily armored ones) like they were nothing.

Too bad for the MCs who don't natively have S8-10 and/or armorbane. They're going to be pretty screwed against melee walkers now (though the likes of the Defiler will remain garbage).
Poor Trygons and Bloodthirsters.
Meanwhile, the Wraithknight and Dreadknight don't really care because they were punching at S10 anyway.

You ARE aware you are calling them "poor" for being beaten by a unit type that in 6th had nothing worth mentioning and was generally considered worthless?
At least "assualt" walkers serve SOME purpose now, anti-MC, being slightly harder to kill too makes them potentially viable!
We all know the was MC40k and psyker 40k, now the two got nerfed into sane levels, and more stuff will be viable. heck it will even render regular tactical marines more viable due to simple chain reaction of less MCs and superpsykers around.

Feels like white scars just got punched in the groin, not really worth the difference for a +1 on it.
On well, All making sure to always buy out invun on DE vehicles now I think.
Having to drop the turn before you charge is annoying, but still worth it for the fix for grounding. Just have to be more careful about where you drop.
