I was talking to one of the owners at my FLGS about Dark Vengence (namely because I was looking for one for a painting project I'm working on and he didn't have any in stock) and from what his distributor has told him Dark Vengeance is not getting a new rulebook, just a sticker saying the rules aren't current. It's also been pulled off the mandatory stockist list. GW is looking just to draw down how many sets they have right now before an eventual new Starter set comes out. So when it's gone, it's gone.

Making the owner of your FLGS, his distributor, or White Dwarf a liar then.

Considering how often the WD makes mistakes, I'd like to guess it's them because the Distributor works for GW and knows what is or is not available or getting changed (inventory systems and all that) and my FLGS owner has no reason to make things up or yank my chain. Plus I know him well enough to know when he's yanking someone's chain.

EDIT: You know, I actually don't recall seeing anything in the WD saying DV was getting new rules off hand. Anyone care to point me at where it says that?

All three, GW is cutting production on DV but will continue to sell the kit until stock dwindles to minimalism levels. Only then will the new starter kit be released.

They are only getting the sticker. Came from a high up who has been in recent GW news on here (remaining nameless for his security). But it is fact they're only getting the sticker.

Edit for misreading.

It can't be all three then because what I've heard from my FLGS and what he's saying his distributor said coincides with what you're saying right there. So that would mean 2/3 are telling the truth.

EDIT: Look, if I'm wrong in the end, that's fine but I'd rather put out some bad news and it not go down that way than not put it out and everyone get caught with their pants down when it does go that way.

Gunning for that second true in pretre's thread?

It seemed this was decided when that entry in White Dwarf was published. I definitely expected them to either move away from including the mini-rulebook or only including an incomplete version.

No, just passing along the bad news so if it happens we don't get caught by surprise.

If they're still writing WD 3 months out then it's possible this was a recent reversal of a previous plan. I won't pretend to know everything, but I wouldn't count on GW updating the rules, complete or not, to 7th.

I got my info immediately before Memorial Day. Dark vengeance gets a sticker saying the rules are out of date. No update within the box.

I guess it could be that DV already out 'in the wild' will get a sticker

while DV sent out fresh from GW either direct or into distribution (from whatever day zero GW chooses)

which is pretty much what happens in other fields of business when a company tweeks a product.

Retailers with the old version have to carry on selling the now out of date stock they have in their inventory (or dump it)

If that is the case, it would have made infinitely more sense to simply ship the retailers stickers to apply, instead of shipping boxes back and forth.

I just assumed there will be a shrink wrapped mini rulebook shrink wrapped onto the outside of Dark Vengence, if we ever see it again.

"Sorry Mario, but your rulebook is in another castle" seems like a bad way to go about introducing people to HHHobby.

Way to go making the barrier to entry just that little bit higher GW.

I'm assuming this rumoured sticker is just going to be a power armoured hand giving the finger?

They could make a different sticker for each of the founding legions, and get people to collect the whole set!

If GW stickered the copies of DV currently in the supply chain, and issued a new version including the new rulebook, then both versions of the story could be true.

It is undoubtedly cheaper to print stickers than to recall and repack the already finished boxes.

That quote from the WD right there doesn't specifically state that dark vengeance is the one that is going to get the update, it just says there will be an update could mean a new starter.

Firstly, please don't use the H word, or you may find yourself on the end of various WK type accusations.

Secondly - don't shout, we can hear you just fine.

Thirdly - precedent - White Dwarf have got things wrong in the past, which, unsurprisingly, means that information that conflicts with that stated in the magazine is often not disregarded out of hand, not to mention, things can change, and what was true three weeks or so ago when the WD went to print, may well have changed, and this thread is based in more recent info.

I agree with KK's vision of how this will likely play out. Mainly because he's pretty groovy.

If that's the case then the least they could do is drop the price down by £10...right?

GW gets rules wrong in WD lots, but have they ever gotten something wrong on an announcement like this?

Wat? It says right there that DV will be getting the updated rules..."This" being the DV set mentioned in the first part of the sentence.

They should (I would buy another couple ) but they probably won't, but if they don't drop it you should get a voucher. Either for a free mini rule book in the future or for money off the main rule book now

My source is high up in NA. That is all. Far more accurate than a WD, which screws up often, thanks.

@Adam, the stickers were supposed to be mailed to stores when they got in 7th edition, to apply themselves.

What are we calling "screw ups"? Because you don't genuinely expect them to give you all of the rules for a shiny new unit, right?

@Adam, the stickers were supposed to be mailed to stores when they got in 7th edition, to apply themselves.

So more likely than "There's no new starter!" or "They're not repackaging Dark Vengeance with a new rulebook!", they just royally messed up and didn't send the stickers out properly.

Of course not, that would add some real, genuine, value to the magazine and nobody would actually want that!

Those kits aren't going anywhere for a little while. They cranked out so many in such a short time that your going to be seeing as many of them out as you still se AOBR sets still in circulation.
